I Tried putting this code on wordpress directly and on file manger on my ( theme functions php ) did you mean (functions php) ? or does this go into adverts theme ?

Hello I tried to add the search by category as a plugin as direct on the snippet page. The plug in failed to load. I saved as a zip file . Im trying to make the search only search categories
/advert-category/what ever it may be/

If this won’t load add in your theme wp-config.php following line define("WP_DEBUG", true); it should show an actual error message.

That worked for loading the plug in . Thanks! But seems to not be working with the main search that is part of my theme. Should it ? Do you recommend a plug that may work ? or may be customized ?

When I enter item into search the page address is mywebsite/?s=item

But im looking for the search result to be http:/mywebsite/advert-category/item/

So again looking for the search to populate http:/mywebsite/advert-category/item

The search form cannot redirect to category page, searching using HTML forms can only append $_GET params (for example ?advert_category=100) to the URL.

The code snippet i sent you allows to search by category, if you want to list categories with SEO friendly URLs then you can use Categories Widget to do that or [adverts_categories] shortcode.
