  • Export XML files from your four blogs in WP.com. Import them one by one to your self-hosted installation. Not too difficult. Just try it.

It would be that simple then? Wow. And I wouldn’t lose the comments. If I wanted to export files from the three “secondary” blogs to the main blog in WordPress.com, could that be done as well? So I wouldn’t lose the comments instead of transferring them one by one? Or is that a question I’d need to ask over at WordPress.com?

Um… if you’re planning to merge the 4 blogs into unfinishedperson.com, why haven’t you purchased it yet? If I were you, I’d do so. It’s a pretty cool name and someones gonna see it here, see that it’s available, and snag it.

WordPress.com to WordPress stand-alone and vice versa is just a matter of exporting and import XML files. Among others, it includes all the posts, comments, users (if multi-blogger setting), etc.

After you export XML with e.g. 1,620 posts from WordPress.com, you then import the file to WP stand-alone. You should see 1,620 posts successful import at the end of the import — the total posts will be noted at the top of the admin screen. Sometimes, it takes more than one import. Don’t worry, if you already have some of the posts imported on the first try, it will be noted on screen and WP will then proceed to import the other posts not yet in the system. It’s just awesome.

Also, when you import large XML files to WP stand-alone, you have to make sure that your max file upload to server/webhost will accomodate one XML file because some have limits of 2MB. Some XML files can range from 4MB of around 300+posts/comments to 22MB of 1,800+posts/comments. Good luck.
