• Longtime WP user here… Is there a way to use WP to create something roughly equivalent to this HTML site: https://www.arearealestateco.com/
Disregard the unattractive buttons/graphics and formatting, I’m just referring to the general layout of the top page where you have a “home” blog post in the main window, then other blog posts available on a nav bar if you click them.

    Basically, I think this means:
    1. Suppressing all but one post in the main window (your “home/welcome” post.
    2. All post titles show up on the left (or right) nav. (When people click one, it’ll then show the post in the main window.)
    3. Suppressing everything on the nav bar except the posts (no blogrolls, archives, etc.)

The overall idea is to use software I’m already familiar with (WP and WP themes) to create an easily maintainable and attractive site.

  • yes you could do that, but truthfully, I could put that together in 5 mins using plain old HTML, and I wouldnt have to worry about upgrades.

    Amen to that.

I could too, but this issue is being able to do it so that it doesn’t look completely amateurish. I lack the graphics design skills to create a professional-looking site… and that’s why altering a pre-made theme came to mind.

It doesn’t sound too hard. Just install a WP with a theme you like. Set “display at most 1 post on index” and make a “recent posts” list with no limit.
