too many calls to wordpress domain 66.155.40.186

  • Hi,

    My wordpress install make outside calls to wordpress domain 66.155.40.186. I understand it is for update purposes but there are so many that it slows the server (OVH).
    Looking at the logs I have 4 to 6 calls to this adress per minute !

    Has somebody encountered the same problem ? Do you have a quick fix ?

    Are you sure it is these calls that are slowing the performance of your website? What are the plugins you are using ? ‘

    Also, what are these calls doing ? Is there a URL in your call that may be calling some API?

    There may be a possibility that it may not be these calls that may be slowing down or hampering the performance. It could be something else. However, at this point it is difficult to say. Another test you may want to do is use Chrome’s developer tools to find out what time be taking time to load. For more information about how that can be done refer to the following link:

    There are some other tools also that help analyse website slowness for example Yslow.

    Hi, thanks for your quick answer.

    The site loads quite quickly but the TTFB is very slow : 800 ms. I contacted hosting service OVH and they explain to me that it is beacause there are too many calls.
    It is true that when we where running wordpress 2.4 the site had a total load time of 850 ms. When we updated to wordpress 2.5 then number of outgoing request per day went from 1200 to 4900.

    According to the hosting service it is what cause the delay in the TTFB.

    Any reason why you are not running WordPress 4.6.1 which is the latest? What is the entire URL that is being called? You have just provided the I.P address.

    Hi,

    I just updated the site. there was indeed no reason.

    So I will let it run for a day to see if the new version curbed the number of outgoing calls.

    I only have the ip addresses that are called by the site, not the real url. I get the information from the logs of the hosting company. I don’t know how to get the rest. (I am not very technical)

    I updated the site but now it is even worse !
    from 4500 outside calls I now have 11200 for oct 13 !

    The TTFB is up to 1.5 second. It is terrible !

    Wow ! Okay, given the amount of information we have here, it may be difficult to understand the underlying cause for this behavior. Could you get a copy of the logs and may be share a few lines which are showing the IP. Not sure who is making these calls and why.

    Your hosting service provider should provide you the logs via email.
