• Just want to know if I’m missing something here, is it possible to allow members to pick and choose fields that are private? For example, I’m asking for their phone and email upon sign up. If a member doesn’t want their phone number displayed in the Member Directory, do they have the ability to turn that off? Currently I only see an option to either hide a profile completely or make it visible. Is this possible out of the box or is it possible with some custom development?

  • Yes, that would require customization. However, have you tried this? You can create 2 telephone number fields: one for those who wish to publish a number and another one for those who don’t. For those who don’t want their numbers visible, you, in the edit field of that telephone number text box, can have in ‘Privacy’ settings: “Only visible to profile owner and admins”. Then in the text box for those who want to publish a number, you would have in the ‘Privacy’ settings: “Everyone”.

Yes, this means having the users type their numbers twice.

Thanks for your reply…I’ve actually decided that I’m going to use Gravity Forms for the user registration and then have it sync up with UM. I’m doing this because of the Zapier integration and that’s important for my client.

With that being said, would I still be able to achieve something as simple as having the member select which fields they want displayed via customization? Do you know any good devs that are experienced in UM that I can reach out to?

Hey Boris…saw you deleted your reply, I’ll still try what you suggested and see if I can make that work. However, in the interest of time and if you’re available for hire or have anyone you can suggest I’d love to just get my custom GravityForm done and working with the privacy option finished. It’s for a church so I’ll have to see if my budget allows for it of course.
