Need WP 2.6 Update — But I’ve Modified My Theme!
-
I am currently using WordPress 2.5, but I read in the Codex that in order to install the “Press This” function, I need to upgrade to WP 2.6. (Of course, it’s time to upgrade anyway.) The trouble is that when I attempt to upgrade using Fantastico off of my cPanel, I get a message saying that IF I’ve modified my theme then I should NOT click “Upgrade Now”.
But I HAVE modified my theme! I’ve added code under the Header, Sidebar and Body, and I’ve changed a few little things. (My basic theme is called “mm3,” but I’ve changed maybe 5% of the code across 3 or 4 component files.)
So, is this a Catch-22 or something? If I upgrade to WP2.6, will it undo all the work I did to modify my theme — or will it do much worse? Then again, if I don’t upgrade then I’ll be missing all the new features and functionality of WordPress (including “Press This”). I’m afraid to click that “Upgrade Now” button for fear of losing a lot of work on my theme that was accomplished through no small agony. I know I won’t lose content (existing pages and blog entries), but what about design elements? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
