    Hi,
Before I start, I wasn’t quite sure how to search for this and wanted to give details of what I’m experiencing.

    1. I purchased a domain name from namecheap.com
    2. Went to bluehost and purchased hosting.
    3. I did a WP install and couldn’t get to my site. Uninstalled and reinstalled. Still didn’t work.
    4. Called bluehost and turns out I didn’t have an A record and DNS. Got that resolved.
    5. Logged into my site for the first time using its IP address.
    6. Installed Genesis and a child theme.
    7. When I go to customize the theme, it makes me log in over and over again and won’t save my changes.
    8. Other little things are glitchy, too. I just wonder if the whole installation still isn’t exactly right. When I login, I can type my website address, but it always changes over to the IP address. My other sites never did that. Sometimes, I can’t log in and had to change the login password twice this morning. When I DO change it, I can get in.

I have no idea what sort of issue this is. Is it WP? Is it Genesis? The child theme?

    What I’ve tried:
    1. Updated everything to the latest version.
    2. Have not tried uninstalling and reinstalling Genesis. But for $60, you’d think it would work right since so many others use it…
    3. I have Shareaholic, Google Sitemaps, JetPack and OptinCat installed as plugins.

    Thanks in advance.

Logged into my site for the first time using its IP address.

Are you logging in via IP address or domain? If you set it up with IP address, you need to fix that. Install the plugin “better search and replace” Search for https://youripaddress and replace with https://yourdomain

sterndata – yes, I fixed that. ?? I can log in just by typing in the name.

I’m starting to think it might be my child theme that’s causing issues. But would that cause me to have to log out and in again?

Now that you’ve done that, clear your browser’s cache, any cookies related to the site, and any cache you might have on the server/site.

Thank you so much, sterndata. I ended up calling my hosting company. I had emptied the cache in my computer and in my browser but, alas, it had no effect.

What I found out was that upon installation, there were still some settings that were wonky.

But I can share one tip: if you call your host late in the evening, around 9:30pm or later, the wait time is significantly reduced! When I called them first on Saturday, I waited 25 minutes. Calling on Sunday night, my wait time was only 8 minutes. So…there’s that.
    Haha!

    Thanks!

And forget about calling on Monday mornings!
