• Greetings.

I am having trouble configuring my site such that: “Comments” is enable for each and every PAGE and POST.

The comments-form is working fine for all PAGES.

But, it is not showing for my POSTS.

I have a default page which displays when I open my site. This page holds every article which is posted to the site, by default.

I deleted, and then re-installed the Comments plug-in which WP offered as a solution. However, this did nothing.

I have tried manually enabling comments every which way. Still, nothing. Screen-Options, Settings, Discussions, etc. etc. Nothing works.

I de-activated, and then re-activated all plug-ins. I didn’t expect this to solve the problem anyway, but I decided I had nothing to lose by trying. Didn’t work.

I found an online post which referred to modifying “Settings” under the “Theme Options” menu. But, seeing as the Theme Options is missing from my WordPress Menu, I am at a loss as to how this could be of any help.

  • Enabling/disabling comments in Settings -> Discussions only affects posts/pages published after you make the settings change. Have you gone to Posts -> All Posts, selected all the posts, then in the Bulk Actions drop-down selected “Edit” and in the Comments drop-down, select “Allow” and clicked “Update”?

If you’ve already done that, and the comments form for your posts is still not showing up, the only thing you didn’t mention is what theme you’re using. Try one of the default themes–if you haven’t already–and see if that makes your comments show up.

    Thanks for the reply, Linux4me.

No, I hadn’t done that earlier (I did it for each individual post — using Quick edit–, but never as a Bulk Action).

I just tried it now (twice), and it still doesn’t work.

I am using Lovecraft Theme :((

I just re-read your original post. Are you saying that on your home page, which displays all your posts, the comment forms aren’t showing up, or on an individual page for a single post the comments aren’t showing up? If it’s the former, that’s by design. The comment form typically isn’t displayed on a page with more than one blog entry.

If it’s the latter, you’ve already eliminated the plugins as the cause, so I’d try switching to one of the default themes, like Twenty Sixteen, and see if it’s a theme issue.

“…………Are you saying that on your home page, which displays all your posts, the comment forms aren’t showing up……..”

    Yes. It’s this one.

I had no idea this was by design.

How do I place a comment form there? This home-page displays all my posts. I would like to have a comment-form for EACH post. I always thought this was the main reason for using WordPress to create one’s blog.

    Thanks

When a page displays multiple posts, usually just excerpts based on the placement of the “more” tag, the idea is that the user clicks through to an individual post they’re interested in reading completely, and the comment form is displayed.

    I see.

But, those individual posts are, in effect, “Pages“. Correct?

I assume it is impossible to add a comments-form to “Posts”, unless those posts stand-alone (only 1 post on the page)?

But, those individual posts are, in effect, “Pages“. Correct?

Well, in WordPress-speak, “pages” are different than “posts”. Pages are usually used for content that rarely changes, a static home page, an “About Us” page, a contact page, etc. “Posts” are your blog entries. Technically, any page on a site is a page.

If you had a single comment form on your “posts” page, there would be no way for WordPress to know which post the comment was connected to. You’d have to have a comment form for each post, which would be a very busy page. I’m not saying it’s impossible, but it seems like it would be unnecessary.

If you judiciously use the “more” tag in your posts, you can feature more of them in the same space on your posts page, increasing the chances that your readers will find one they’re interested in reading in its entirety, clicking through to the individual post page, and commenting on it. If you have every post and a comment form for it on your posts page, there’s going to be a lot of scrolling involved, which makes your page less user-friendly. I guess you could hide the comment form with CSS unless the user clicks something to expand it, but that’s still a lot of extra code your page will have to load.

    Got it!

Thanks a lot for your help on this. Much appreciated ??

Hi, would you happen to know what plugin or CSS I could use to include a link to the comments on the homepage posts? At the very least I was hoping the homepage posts could show the number of comments already left on the post, or ideally, a link would open a menu allowing the user to leave a comment directly from there, without having to open the post.

I am using the default Twenty Seventeen theme.

    Thank you!

    Good question

Would like to know the answer to this one, too

    Hi there,

I’m using the twenty seventeen theme and I too can’t get either the comments form, or my social icons (Social Pug) to appear on my blog posts. They show when clicking “Preview”, but not on the live site itself.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks, Roddy

I’m the same as Roddy and using the twentyseventeen theme. I want to be able to have posts as single entries per page and the option to add comments below each one. It sounds simple enough, but no matter what I do, I can’t get the comments box to show below posts – only in preview.

Any help with this matter and perhaps how to remove the post numbers/next/previous line below each post.

Thanks in advance of any suggestions.

There Is an option like this →

Automatically close comments on articles older than 28 days.

I hope that is not checked?

wpfighter, YOU ROCKS. I spent 3 days to figured out, why some of my comments are closed and examine a couple core classes. Usually, all answers like “activate the checkbox”, “bulk activate comments” and blah blah blah. But no one, except you, no ask to check this. Thank you!

@wpfighter – Thank you so much. My hours of search for fix of above issue is ended with your one line solution. You really rock ??
