My website cutetropolis.com is attempting to redirect users to /install.php and displaying the error message “cutetropolis.com redirected you too many times”.

This just now began happening for no apparent reason. I’ve made no changes to my site configuration nor have I upgraded any plugins.

Since I last experienced this error just after upgrading Jetpack, I’m reporting it in this forum.

Here are some things I have tried to solve the problem, without success:

    • Via FTP, deleted the Jetpack folder
    • Deleted ALL my plugin folders

Nothing has worked and my site is not working correctly and my readers are unhappy and I’m losing advertising money. The last time this error occurred, Jetpack was at fault, and I’m very unhappy to find myself dependent on this unstable plugin for so many features on my site.

Update: Now my site is partially working. The redirect error is gone and I can log into the WP admin backend.

This happened to me last night when I upgraded Jetpack. I worked for 4 hours getting this quasi fixed. I kept getting the /install.php redirect.

I ended up going into my database, deleting all plugins and then, and only then, could I get back to the dashboard.

As soon as I re-enabled Jetpack my site crashed again and got the /install.php.

I delete the plugin from the database, logged back in and turned on other plugins and it’s working. I love Jetpack but this is a MAJOR deal.

    This needs attention, please!

I’m glad to see you could figure things out. Did the problem disappear after removing a specific plugin, or taking a specific action? Is there anything you could recommend to @tkwadmin, who seems to be experiencing similar issues?

    Thanks!

    Hi Jeremy,

For me the issue is actually JetPack (latest version). I did log a support ticket directly with them yesterday. I love this plugin and am lost without it. @mbrailer whatever you can suggest that worked for you let me know. Specifically did you re-install the latest version of Jetpack then activate it OR did you just re-activate what you had installed?

    @jeherve suggestions, please!

    Thanks ??

Jeremy, it’s difficult to say with certainty what happened. After I FTP-deleted the Jetpack folder, there was no change. Likewise, after deleting all the remaining plugin folders, there was no immediate change, but within about ten minutes, I stopped getting the “redirected too many times” error and was able to see my site (incomplete without the plugins) and log onto the admin back end. After that, I reinstalled my plugins one by one until the site was back to normal operation. That’s the best account of events that I can offer.

@mbrailer – do you by chance use the W3 Total Cache Plugin (or did you)? In speaking with my hosting company they had me check that (I was using it) and it apparently wasn’t clearing out the queries or deleting the cache files.

It’s been ~48 hours and my site is running but when I tried to re-activate JetPack… it killed my site again. I didn’t download/re-install.

@kitchen — At the time of yesterday’s incident, my site was using WP Super Cache, which is not the same as W3 Total Cache.

@mbrailer Thanks for the extra details. That seems odd indeed; maybe a caching issue.

@tkwadmin Do you use any type of caching plugin or service like W3 Total Cache on your site? If so, what happens when you deactivate the plugin, delete the Jetpack plugin from the Plugins menu, and reinstall it from scratch?

Yes, it is happening with my site https://www.pmvision.ca since yesterday. After investigation, the website redirect to install.php because there are many inquriies to the database ” more than 75000 /h” as all hosts allow. You have to wait one hour until the site start working again. after further investigation, i discovered it is Jetpack because for more than 5 times, when i activate it, the website crash, i tried with other plugins , nothing happened.

Unfortunately, disabling Jetback will affect all my website because i use many of its features , especially widget visibility. Now my site is down again and i have to wait one hour

@nanacyrah Thanks for chiming in! That’s interesting information.

Could you all try using our beta plugin? You can find a download link and instructions here:
    https://jetpack.com/beta

We’ve made more performance improvements to the plugin in the past few weeks, and our synchronization process now makes less requests, so it could cause your problems to be resolved.

Once you install and activate the beta plugin, go to Jetpack -> Jetpack Beta and choose “Tagged Beta Releases” and make sure the “Auto-Update Jetpack when new betas are available” is checked and click the “Save my choice” button.

After you’ve installed it, and if the problem remains, could you reach out to us via this contact form with some examples of the queries that appear to be triggering the block, so we can see if they’re related to Jetpack, and what module triggers those queries?

    Thanks!

Hi Jeremy, thank you for the reply

According to the link to download the Beta: “You need to have the regular Jetpack plugin installed, activated, and updated to the most recent version.” I can’t activate Jetpack because it crashes the website, it happened 5 times so far. So i can’t use the Beta version.

Since i deactivated Jepack, the website is working good with no troubles. Now i have to work to fix the site because many elements are missing due to the deactivation.

Now i am not sure, maybe i should wait till next update, or install an older version. I can’t risk the site going down more as i have students who needs to log in and use training materials.

What i mean i can’t activate because the moment i press” activate”, the website freezes for few minutes before crashes

    Hi Jeremy @jeherve,

Yes as I stated above I was using W3 Total Cache but as soon as I updated Jetpack my site crashed like the others did. I removed all aspects of the W3TC, purged the database and tried reactivating Jetpack several times.

I cannot turn it on now at all because as soon as I do it crashes and I get the redirect issue /install.php I, like @nanacyrah cannot risk testing out a beta as it requires an active Jetpack installed. I still have many hours left ahead of trying to correct the parts of my site that were impacted by this.

Why is this marked as resolved when it’s still happening?
