• Hello community, I am encountering a frustrating problem with WordPress Settings are reverting after clicking Save. It seems to be that Checkboxes within Settings aren’t being saved properly.

For example: Whenever we make a change on the Settings > Media page, such as deselecting “Organize my uploads into month- and year-based folders”, the checkbox automatically re-checks itself after saving. In other words, the changes are not remaining and seem to be reverting to forced or default “checked” setting.

Another example is when we deselect ANY of the Checkboxes on the Settings > Discussion tab, these changes revert upon saving.

This is most prominently occurring on the WP Settings page. (For example, the settings that affect options-discussion.php, options-media.php, etc.), although I have noticed other areas of WP not retaining the changes upon saving.

It was suggested by the developer that this may be a server Permissions issue. After further research, that theory seems to be debunked.

I have already taken the following measures, none of which have worked:
    – I already tried uninstalling and re-installing WP
    – I have repaired the db tables
    – I already tried forcing the checkbox function to -0- instead of -1- on the options php files
    – Used different browsers to see if Firefox just wasn’t working the checkbox properly
    – I have cleared my tmp WordPress Sessions data on the server to see if that would reset it
    – I am experiencing it on ALL of my wordpress sites being hosted on Media Temple
    – I already tried adjusting directory and file permissions
    – I have already disabled all plugins – this issue is NOT plugin or theme related (supposedly)
    – I have been speaking at length with the Theme Developer as well as my Host/Server Media Temple, but this is happening across all of my domains and both parties insist this is a WordPress issue. Perhaps something to do with the recent update?

None of these above measures seem to work. Can you please help?

    Thanks so much in advance!

  • Hello Distrikt,

    1. Do you use different themes/plugins on your sites or are they duplicate?
    2. Does it do the same thing with a completely new clean WP install?
    3. Has this always been this way or did it suddenly change after an update etc?

As the problem is happening across multiple sites I would lean more toward it being an issue with the hosting/server. Are you able to set up one of your sites on a different temporary host?

Hi Sage. Thank you kindly for the reply. To respond to your questions:

    1. My various sites use different themes and plugins, no duplicates
    2. Yes, even after a clean WP install it does the same
    3. It only changed recently. Perhaps in the last couple of weeks. I can’t recall if it happened exactly when WP updated or not.

Yes, it seems to be an issue on the side of the hosting/server and not the theme, however it is specifically related to a fault in the functionality of WordPress, and the host/server MediaTemple refuses to offer support for WordPress, stating that such issues would originate from permissions changes that WP imposes on the server.

Thanks again, looking forward to any help I can get from you and the community.

    Hey Distrikt,

That’s very strange that they wouldn’t support something like that, are you using their WP hosting? Different themes, plugins etc, clean WP install, all of that leads to a hosting configuration error which is why I ask if it is possible to try out one of your sites on a different host. If it was indeed a WordPress version-wide error imposing things on servers then there would be a whole lot more noise about it (can’t find anything in google for the issue). Has Media Temple mentioned if this problem has been seen for other users?

No, MediaTemple hasn’t experienced this before. Which is why they are suggesting it is a WP issue.

    Hey,

Sorry, I’m not sure what else to suggest other than put it up on a different host so you can show them that it isn’t a WP issue?

Sorry I can’t be of more assistance,
