• Hi there,

I’m using the Pique theme on my site and it’s all working great.

    https://www.ashleyscrace.com/

I especially love the automatically generated anchored menu which takes the info from Panels and makes a menu that moves from one area to another.

However, I noticed that it’s a lot of scrolling to go back to the top – or ‘Home’ as I’d call it.

Is there a way to add a ‘Home’ link to the anchored menu WITHOUT creating a new panel to automatically generate this link?

Either that, or is there some sort of ‘Back to the top’ button I’m missing?

I want to keep the functionality of the menu – it’s great that it takes you to a a particular point on a page. However, I don’t know how one would do this so you return to the top of the page.

    Many thanks,

    Ash

  • Hi Ash,

Firstly: Apologies for the delay in my reply! Automattic (the team behind Pique) were away at our annual company retreat last week, but we’re back now and working our way through all the questions that came up while we were away.

You could link to the Home panel of your site by first setting up a custom menu. I’ve broken down the steps to that here:

    • Navigate to Appearance > Menus in your WordPress admin area.
    • Click on the “create a new menu.” link.
    • Input a name into the “Menu Name” field and then select the blue “Create Menu” button.
    • Check the option next to “Primary Menu” from “Theme Locations.”

The next step is to find the unique ID for each of your panels in order to add a custom link directly to them in your menu.

I used my browser’s built in inspector tools (we have guidance on how you can do that here) to find that the unique ID for your top Home panel is #pique-hero:

The following URL, therefore, directly links to that panel:

The direct links to the other panels on your site are as follows:

Now that you have the unique URL to each of your panels, you will need to add “Custom Links” using the module on the left side of the Appearance > Menus page.

Give that a go and let us know if any questions come up along the way. ??

Now I’m sorry for my late reply ??

Such a simple fix, thanks! I’d started working out the post IDs and putting those into a custom menu, but could not for the life of me work out the pique-hero link for the homepage.

So thank you very, very much for this.

You’re most welcome. ?? I’m glad you got the menu working as you’d like it to!

If any extra questions come up, please don’t hesitate to start a new thread.
