Previously, I was using the WP_Identicon plugin made by Scott Sherrill-Mix. The default Identicons (32 pixels) didn’t look good, but it was easy to set the plugin to use 50 pixel Identicons that look way better.

Now, I have upgraded to WordPress 2.6. There is Identicon support built in, but they all look different and much uglier.

I want to make the Identicons look like they did before. Can this be done? If so, how?

Thanks a lot for your help,

To clarify, the new Identicons do seem to be 50 by 50 pixels, they just look a lot blockier than before.

It seems like maybe the built in Identicons in 2.6 are based on the email address commenters enter, rather than their IP address.

Before, two comments posted from the same IP with different email addresses would have the same Identicon. Now, it seems that two comments with the same IP but different email addresses get different Identicons.

Is there any way to change it back?

Having realized that the problem is the data used to generate Identicons, I put up a forum post that poses my question better:

    Consider this thread discontinued.
