• I have a site that I installed WordPress for, but off of the main directory on the server (in a folder labeled “wp”). I left the old files on the server intact in case I needed them later. I then simply set a redirect for the WordPress page. Months later, I’m still realizing Google is indexing the old site and links and nothing from the WordPress install. What do I need to do to get the WordPress site to index and not the old site that sits on the root directory of the server?

For reference, the site is https://www.toryleather.com.

  • From what I can tell when I look at the cached version of the site in google is only caching the new WP site. That said, if your tests are showing old pages showing up in search you need to block each page from.

You can block each page of the old site from being indexed by using a robots.txt file with on line for each page that looks like this.

    Disallow: /shop.html

Hope this helps! Let us know.
