Cannot Edit Any Post Whatsoever.

  • It has been four months, and I finally gave up, so I come here for help. I have tried everything short of blowing out my site and starting from scratch. I have had my site up for a few years and after last few updates to WordPress, I can no longer edit any post. I can create a new post, save new ones as drafts before posting. But once posted I cannot edit. Every time I hit publish button from the edit mode it goes to a screen that says nothing here. When I go back to the post, no edits took. It is now a critical issue, and I cannot find an answer anywhere. I have disabled every plugin, changed themes, etc. and still noting. I’m running version WordPress 4.6.1

    When I hover over the edit button, I see this at the bottom of the screen https://domain/wp-admin/post.php?post=1082&action=edit

    The post comes up in edit mode. If I hover preview, I see this: https://domain/2016/06/article-name/?preview=true

    Notice, no id’s anywhere. If I click update I get this on the next screen:

    Nothing Here!

    This is definitely a bug that got past your QA, and I have no idea how to fix it. Please help! I need to update articles and post new ones. Or worse case, I scrape WordPress once and for all and go elsewhere.

    Here is one thing that is odd. If a post is flagged private I can edit it. If it is public I cannot. On the public post, the id seems as if not being passed; it’s as if it’s losing the parameters on the post. The same issue is with pages as well whether public or private.

    The debug console shows zero errors. I switched to the default theme, followed the directions on the page, except for deleting the directories and copying them back from a fresh zip, and still the same result.

    I also cannot preview the public post either. Goes to the same, nothing here page.

    What is the next step to try? Also, thank you for responding. I greatly appreciate it

    Another update, I went ahead and replaced the admin and includes folders as directed and copied to the content folder as stated and still same issue.

    This is frustrating; please help.

    Hi @nitefrog, I’ve highlighted your issue with my peers and want to triple-check something:

    Can you keep all of your plugins deactivated and switch to the Twenty Fifteen/ Sixteen theme and see if the issue persists?

    I’m sorry you’re having trouble. Can you try some of these temporary steps just to troubleshoot?

    Please try the following temporary steps to troubleshoot:

    • Switch to the Twenty Sixteen theme
    • Deactivate all of your plugins, no exceptions
    • Using FTP or whatever file management tools your host has provided you with navigate to the directory that WordPress is installed in.
    • Once there locate and rename the .htaccess to .htaccess-old. Just that one file and nothing else and do not delete it.
    • Clear your browser’s cache and cookies
    • Re-login and visit the post editor
    • Try making changes as well as preview the changes

    Do you still get the problem when you do that?

    Sadly, I have. It only seems to be to happening with posts marked public and pages. If the post is private, no issue. It is the weirdest thing.

    I can’t preview public the post either. If I click preview it goes the page, page not found. I also tried multiple browsers; Safari, Firefox, Chrome. All the same issue.
