    Hi,

I’ve done some reading and found many great solutions to things with q-translate by using it’s advanced features, like fixing the title of an article shared on twitter.

I’ve also seen that we can now edit the text of the email sent to people when they subscribe. So my question is: is it possible to have that email that is sent be in one language or another using qtranslate-x?

My guess is no, since qtranslate-x renders on the website, and not in an email being sent.

If that’s true, is there any solution (other than simply putting both languages in the same email with something like “Spanish version below”).

    Jetpack Mechanic ??

I’m afraid there is no easy work-around right now, as Jetpack doesn’t know that your site is available in 2 languages, and only maintains one common list of subscribers.

The only work-around I can think of would be to use WordPress Multisite instead of qtranslate-x to manage the multilingual aspect of your site. If you created 2 sites, part of the same multisite network, you could use 2 different languages, 2 different subscriber lists, and link the 2 sites with plugins like this one.

It’s obviously not ideal if you’ve already developed a solution based on qtranslate-x. In that case, it might be worth using a different subscription management solution, like Mailchimp, and create different widgets, allowing readers to subscribe to different lists based on their language.

Sorry not to be of more help.

No problem, and thanks for the quick reply.

I guess being able to customize the subject line would be nice.

My site is a personal blog, so I don’t mind simply putting both versions of the email in the same message.

I think you’re right, that a more professional solution would be to have two different lists/sites. I did that once with subscribe2 and simply had one widget for my English site and one for my Spanish site — that more or less solved the issue.

I do have one more related question — since this is going to send out an email when I write a new post, and I am writing new posts in two languages using qtranslate-x — what will be sent to the users?

I don’t mind if both languages are sent in the same email, but I’d like to make sure that at least that is done, rather than only one version.

Do you know if it will just show up like:

    [:en]mytext[:es]myspanishtext?

It will, yes, until we fix this issue and remove the shortcodes:
    https://github.com/Automattic/jetpack/issues/869

I don’t have an ETA for that fix, but it’s on our roadmap for the next major Jetpack release.

Cool – good to know you guys have it in mind.

Thanks for the help Jeremy, take care.
