• Hi everyone – I have a newly installed WP site on a dedicated server w/ 8 gigs RAM and plenty of CPU.

I’ve stripped it down to no plugins and am using the Twenty Fifteen theme.

When I first open the site in a browser, it says ‘Waiting for IPADDRESS…’ and takes 8-10 seconds to load. Once it loads and I click around to different parts of the site, it is very quick.

If I wait (say 5 minutes) or go and write a post, it goes back to taking a while. Then, once it responds, it’s quick again – immediate response.

It is completely stripped down to just a few pages and no plugins. It’s almost like it’s a cache problem, but I’m not using any cache plugins.

    Any ideas? Thanks.

  • Hi, drdravefusco, & welcome to the WordPress support forum.

My first thought is that you might want to examine logs generated via your webserver, error logs, Mysql logs, etc. You might also want to make sure that slow Mysql queries are being logged as well. You don’t tell us what your webserver is, what other applications may be running, etc.

It’d be interesting to try to figure out what’s up.

From what you’ve described, it seems more like a network problem than a WordPress issue. DNS resolution, i.e. fetching of IP address of the site, usually takes milliseconds, not seconds. Try accessing your site via a different network or even try changing your own DNS servers to some other publicly accessible DNS server like Google’s(8.8.8.8, 8.8.4.4) or OpenDNS’ (208.67.220.220, 208.67.222.222) and then check if the site is working as expected or not.

It would be helpful if you can provide the domain name of your site, so that I can also try and figure out the issue.
