• Hmm. It seems like I’m always running into this problem, but…here we go again.
Just upgraded to WordPress nightly build 2004-08-04 the other day and realized password protected posts are not working. My index.php is in the root of my domain, and the WordPress files are in a subdirectory. Could this be the problem? As far as I can tell, everything *should* be working correctly, but it’s not. When I enter a password for a private entry, the page simply refreshes, blanking out the input box and not showing the entry.
I’ve already cleared my cache and cookies. Both IE and FireFox are behaving this way. Any ideas from you wonderful, smart people? Thanks in advance!

I know I’m not the only one with this problem, nor is it new…

Still no bites? Even acknowledgement of the problem from other users would help at this point. Or, if the only recommendation is to downgrade to 1.2 (in which password-protecting entries supposedly works), can someone please tell me if this is possible/desirable? From what I’ve read, quite a few things changed in 1.3 and I’d rather not have an enormous mess on my hands by trying to downgrade back to 1.2.
    Please help.

I have the same problem in 1.2. Why are you using nightly builds on anything but a development or testing blog at the moment? 1.3 is still in testing and is not recommended for use as your primary application. Expect lots of bugs in it (it even broke completely the other day) and the features are still pretty fluid at the moment.
I would recommend you used 1.2 for a production/active blog and only used 1.3 for testing at the moment. Most useful to plugin developers wanting to ensure their plugins will work with the next release (which is actually quite a lot different)

Well, if the same bug is in 1.2, then it doesn’t help to use 1.2 either, does it?

I just installed WP and have experienced the same problem after moving index.php to the root of the domain. Interesting, if you link directory to the post, e.g. https://domain.com/wp/index.php?p=3 (wordpress subdir), then the password will work.
