• Query Monitor is my favorite tool for seeing what’s actually going on with WordPress installations. In particular, the slow query and duplicate query reporting makes it easy to see where your code could use some help. This tool also helps you measure the improvements you’re making to memory usage, page generation time, and total number of queries.

The big downside is that the first time you apply this tool to your site you’ll probably feel some embarrassment, possibly even a twinge of shame, for how unoptimized your code is. Push through the bad times, knowing that everybody writes some pretty weak code. ??
