It simply works straight out of the box! I use WP 4.52 / Woo 2.55
Originally i did all my images to 800 x 800 and tried to keep file size as small as possible, but still obtain good quality. How ever, Gtmetrix pointed out i should compress images more, so i installed WP Smush and it was worth it.

TOTAL SIZE REDUCTIONS: 5.55 MB
ATTACHMENTS SMUSHED: 192/192Highly recommend!
