  • I have the same problem. I’m looking for solutions, but have yet to come across anything.

It’s weird because the categories, for all practical purposes, are still there, but they’re blank. On the front end, it looks blank. Says “Filed under , “. On the back end, the description is blank, but it lists how many posts there are. So…

I’m not sure how to fix this. I’ve looked at all obvious code (files that had ‘category’ in the name), but can’t find a file that actually lists the categories.

    hi,

look at my solution. had the problem.

u must retype the name of the categories directly in the mysql database, but therefor u must know which number in the database fits to its category description. i had an backup from 2.5 and there i could see it.

    now it works fine.

    greetings

Not working for me either. Problem looks exactly the same as @oseymour. Been through the db but can’t find a categories definition table. Went through my WP2.2.1 mysql dump and can’t find one there either. What table are the categories defined in?

    From another thread –

On the Settings->Permalinks screen, try setting a category and tag base value. Just have the words “category” and “tag” in there.

This is what I just did and it fixed the problem straight away.

bigcrags…I think I was upgrading from version 2.1 or something like that. I looked at the backup file and the info I needed was in wp_categories. Where I needed to enter that info was in wp_terms. I haven’t yet figured out HOW to enter anything into the table though. I’m stuck there if anyone can tell me how to actually put information in and SAVE the table.

I exported it and got the info I was looking for and was able to insert it, but didn’t know how to save it.

I’m having this exact same problem, too. Both with the categories blank and not knowing how or where to enter the information on the db.

I’m told to enter the sql code into the box on the “SQL” tab, but I keep getting this error message.

    ??

I also have this problem after upgrading to 2.6

I use “Day and name” permalink structure. I have John Godley’s Redirection plugin installed, I don’t know if that’s relevant.

I tried setting the category and tag bases to category and tag and updating the permalinks, but that didn’t solve the problem.

I’m hoping someone will devise a simple fix. I’d rather not start digging around in my sql database if I can avoid it.

I upgraded last night from 2.0.2 to 2.6 & am now experiencing the same problem that oseymour and others below.
42 blank categories with the correct number of posts per category. I don’t know which one is which.
I too tried all the stuff that badjeros did, with no success.

    Amen, brother.

    Possible Solution

People, take a look at this and see if it works.

I’m going to attempt this later today / tommorrow – it’s Saturday morning where I am, & I have to work today.

Good luck guys. Would appreciate some feedback in this thread.

    This solved my problem.
