Finally had time to do some thorough testing on staging site before updating to the 3.0.7 from 2.5

Some sites had problems with the 3.0.x updates and some didn’t. But as of today all my sites are finally all running the latest version without any problems or delays.

Yoast’s SEO is still the best option available (trust me I looked). The only reason it doesn’t get the full 5 stars is because I know that each update has the potential to cause significant issues. (although in fairness updates 3.0.4 through to 3.0.7 have been painless).

Hopefully this is a sign of things to come.

If you’re reading the reviews and can’t decide which SEO plugin to use – you can’t beat Yoast’s plugin for versatility. Any potential pitfalls are more than worth it in the end.

Couldn’t agree more. They are placing their grip on the SEO plugin market on the line here, and any plugin that cannot be updated is just waiting to be replaced by one that can, even if there is a loss in additional functionality such as the sitemaps.

It will take humility to admit that the update hasn’t worked out as expected, but better to eat a little humble pie and chalk it down to experience then lose your reputation as a go-to plugin.

I’m sorry to hear that you think this way, I wrote a recap about the 3.0 release and will certainly admit that some things went wrong.

At the same time it’s working fine on tens of thousands of sites, so please test it, and tell us what doesn’t work IF something doesn’t work. It really works fine on most sites. It’s easy to reference the number of messages here but we’ve got 4 million users, if something breaks for 1 or 2% of users, you get a ton of messages.

Hi Joost, I appreciate the response and I’m still a big fan of your SEO plugin prior to 3.x.x

It’s integrated into so many areas of WordPress, it’s understandable that there will be bugs now and then.

I do test your plugin on a locally hosted staging sites (always). I Just tried the latest 3.0.6 update to see if it resolves the hanging problem when editing pages. Unfortunately it doesn’t.

To be honest, I simply don’t have the time to spare to install test and roll-back your plugin on multiple sites. I wish I did, but I don’t.

Individual problems aside, reliability is key. I’m sure if you polled your users (free and paid) to ask if they they would like improved reliability or improved features. Reliability would win hands down.

According to the compatibility poll out of 4 million users.
    4 people say it works.
    23 people say it’s broken.

It’s misleading to assume everyone who doesn’t vote run 3.0.6 without issues.

If I had a site that I didn’t update on a regular basis maybe I’d think the plugin was working perfectly. Or maybe a large proportion of the 4 million users are running older versions.

I know that happy users are far less likely to comment, but maybe that would be a better marketing objective to address than adding 3rd party companies that deliver false indexing errors.

My intent is not to have a go at you or your plugin, which I am grateful to use. It’s just constructive feedback.

I really hope things work out and I commend you on creating an industry leading plugin.

Just updated my review (and compatibility poll) – Everything is working normally again. I really like that you’ve taken a step back from pushing the third party scans and I’ve updated my review accordingly.

We can be quick to complain when things don’t work, but I also think it’s important to praise when things do.

Thank you for your continuing efforts and your still rocking the best SEO plugin around. Keep up the good work.

    Many Thanks
    Steve
