I have never taken time out of my day to leave a review for something like this but I feel that I have an obligation to warn people away from this plugin. WordPress Download Manager is hands down the worst paid plugin I’ve ever come across.

    • The website lists a number of features that either don’t exist, don’t work or are simply misleading descriptions of functionality. I want to believe this is because of Shaon’s clearly lacking facility with the English language and not outright fraud.
    • For a paid plugin the documentation is awful. There’s hardly a sentence written in proper English leaving you to guess what Shaon was trying to explain in most instances. Within the documentation section of the site the vast majority of functions and shortcodes aren’t even mentioned, leaving you to go digging through Shaon’s extremely poorly written code to find functions and attributes.
    • Speaking of the code, it’s truly horrendous. While the plugin and add-ons in theory provide a great breadth of functionality, the code itself is sloppy and fails to follow wordpress best practices. If you were planning to modify or add functionality, good luck.
    • Almost every feature I’ve used is broken in some way and requires additional coding to function properly. For instance the user upload form doesn’t redirect when an upload is complete, leaving your users confused about whether they successfully uploaded their package or not. Template selections in the TinyMCE plugin simply don’t work at all. Shaon’s attempt at “responsive” styling breaks in almost every instance I’ve seen. The plugin uses tables for styling… tables… really!?! Using the shortcode for listing an individual user’s documents results in broken links that are the result of a very obvious and simple to fix coding error. That particular bug was incorporated several versions ago and despite being a simple one line fix still remains!
    • Looking through the Pro support forums it’s plain to see that Shaon is frequently rude to users, deletes posts and fails to acknowledge the problems with his plugin.
    • Want to upgrade from one version to the next… be prepared to completely rewrite all of your code, rewrite shortcodes on every single page of your site, and lose all customization.

Save yourself time, headache and money by coding something yourself or adapting another download manager plugin. BuddyDrive and CM Download Manager are two potential alternatives. You might have to code into them some of the functionality allegedly provided by WPDM, but at the very least it will reliably work.

BTW… take a look at the other reviews here and you’ll see that many, if not most, of the five star ratings are from phony profiles that created an account the same day they submitted their generic reviews and have never reviewed any other item on here. Also, let’s get real, there is no way that there are legitimately 80,000 active installs of this total piece of junk plugin. Check some of the most popular plugins and they don’t have that many active installs. Again, clear manipulation to mislead users into a purchase.

Don’t be mislead by false advertising and phony reviews.

  • I’ve been reading this kind of reviews all day. I haven’t used this plugin, yet. But.. Did you see how many active users it has? 80k

In few words what you’re afirming is that WordPress shows fake stats. Right? Since the author doesn’t have any control over the stats you’re saying that WP is cheating people?

Don’t take me on the wrong way, these are my thoughts about your review, i just thing that WP displays real stats and you are treating about 80k users like idiots and you are the only smart guy.

Again, it’s not my intention to offend you

Actually that number is reported as being based on plugin update requests, so it can easily be spoofed through a number of methods. I’m not claiming that www.remarpro.com is manipulating their data. I’m saying that there is a cottage industry out there paid to post phony reviews and manipulate active install data. If you spend much time here you’ve surely seen the phony reviews and your defensive nature on this makes me question whether you’re part of it.

@brando2day, looks like you just created your account today in www.remarpro.com to write this review, you even didn’t ask for support in forum. No offense, but, I’m not sure, if you even have any idea about WordPress or Plugin or Programming. But I’m 100% sure that, you came here to do some marketing for another plugins. Everything you wrote here about the plugin features is 100% lie.
Seriously, Don’t waste your time, find something better to do.

@brando2day, thank you for letting me know what you think about me. As author says, it looks like you create your account rcently, that makes me thing that you might be part of a competitor company.

Anyway, i just wanted to share my thoughts.
    Cheers

I already explained above, I don’t usually go out of my way to write reviews about anything – I don’t have the time and am paid too much per hour billed to care. I’m a corporate attorney for a tech company. The fact that I did take the time to create an account to write this review simply evidences how awful I thought your product was and how important I felt it was to help others avoid my mistake of paying for something that’s buggy and doesn’t include the features described.

I purchased your pro plugin to work on a hobby project I’ve been developing. I have been programming since the age of 7 (family of engineers who thought it was an important skill set to bestow upon their children). In fact, I partially paid for law school by doing wordpress site development and have been developing in wordpress since before version 2.0.

I did post in your pro support forum before posting here. After seeing more and more and more bugs I finally decided it wasn’t worth writing dozens of posts in your support forums to get your terrible product working correctly or to help you fix your poor programming. At this point, you still have not responded to my post. Instead, I felt my time was better spent warning other potential users.

All anyone has to do to confirm what I’ve said is read the other reviews by ACTUAL HUMANS and not bots, or better yet go to Shaon’s website and see the incredibly lacking documentation and poor English grammar for yourself before you purchase. In fact, here’s an easy one, go to the shortcode documentation page and compare what’s listed there with the various shortcodes that are noted in the blog posts about new versions. You will see there are numerous shortcodes mentioned in version announcements that are not documented at all in the plugin’s documentation. Have fun searching through the plugins files trying to find attributes! This is just one example that proves Shaon’s response above is less than accurate.

Almost everything I’ve noted above has been raised consistently by other HUMANS in their reviews. It’s clear that there are major problems with your plugin and add-ons. I will be contacting paypal to request a full refund because of what seems to me personally to clearly constitute false and deceptive trade practice.

And obviously I don’t work for another plugin, I recommended multiple of your competitors and acknowledged that they don’t have all of the features that your plugin claims to have. If I worked for a competitor why would I recommend multiple of your competitors and concede that they don’t offer as many features?

Once again, WARNING to all users. Stay away from this plugin. If you want anything more than the most basic functionality either write your own code or use something else, whatever that may be.

Do you really want to give your money to a guy who spends his time calling his own customers liars instead of fixing the flaws in his product and documentation?

Now I understand :). I didn’t know, it was a “paid” review from a “corporate” lawyer.

If a person writes you bad review, just deal with it, and do not cry about it.
You are not alowed to insult directly or indirectly person who reviewd your plugin, which you are doing.

As for the part where you say this: https://prntscr.com/8vy5dp
is totaly contraproductive because this fella here ”julianplaza” is also
    created his account that day.
Do not talk about ‘paid reviews’ bc you are doing the same for yourself or your network buddies here on www.remarpro.com.
Nobody would write you bad review if you are nice and honest and POLITE, which you are not obviously becuse you are insulting this guy indirectly.

There is big network of scamers with ”broken” plugins here on www.remarpro.com trying to spoof www.remarpro.com data and make phony reviews.

My advice to you is be honest, polite, and do not make insults directly or indirectly, no mather what review you get. If you can’t handle that then you have big problem.

    Cheers

Actually, you misunderstood, I don’t have any problem with reviews, good or bad, good review inspires me and bad reviews make me to work hard to make the plugin better, but when a review is not actually a “review”, what else to say. You said “there is no way that there are legitimately 80,000 active installs”, no offense, but most of the things you wrote are just funny. But still I’m sorry, if anything I wrote offended you.

Yeah, I’m done with this conversation. Clearly you can’t read English either because I didn’t say my review was paid. I said I’m paid too much to waste my time on these things.

You’ve proven what you are to any potential customers who read this review. A person who can’t take criticism and calls his own users liars is clearly not someone worthy of transacting business with.

Your responses here are enough that I’d actually consider further remedies beyond paypal’s system if you weren’t operating out of Bangladesh.

Closing argument to any potential users – notice that the plugin’s author never addressed the specific issues I pointed out in my first post above. He could have easily directed you to thorough, well-written documentation. But he didn’t He could have directed you to a page where his responsive styling works out of the box. But he didn’t. He could have given examples that the missing functionality described is really there. But he didn’t. He could have acknowledged some problems and promised to fix them in future updates, but instead he called a paying customer a liar and ignored all of my specifics.

At the very least, he has confirmed one point in my original post: he is rude.

Do you want to risk your money on a business like this being operated out of a country reputed for online fraud?

    (@codename065)

Point is every feature we mentioned are perfectly functional and if you or anyone need help with setup we are always here. You just need to ask, good or bad, sometimes inexperienced person may not understand everything from documentation, but the way we explained every feature inside settings pages, 99.99% users even don’t need documentation.

    You said,
“every feature is broken and requires additional coding” and you want other people to believe it?

“Want to upgrade from one version to the next… be prepared to completely rewrite all of your code” and you trying to change plugin code directly editing plugin file and again claiming “the code itself is sloppy and fails to follow wordpress best practices”

“there is no way that there are legitimately 80,000 active installs of this total piece of junk plugin” and also claiming “have been developing in wordpress since before version 2.0”

What do I need to prove, your own statements are contradictory, yet you are a “big lawyer”.

I respect every user of my plugin, free or paid, we work hard everyday to help peoples where they need it around our plugins, still I understand, no one can make “All” peoples happy. But problem is when the unhappy person simply express their angers with some lies.

100% agree if OP. This plugin sucks.

agree. i have to admit two things:

    1) statements of OP are 100% correct, I had completly the same feeling

    2) I had to laugh that 10 days after my post, the next horrific description of this plugin details appears and plugin author shows same behaviour.

ps: I really had to laugh, when reading “The plugin uses tables for styling… tables… really!?!” in 2016, this is truly amazing!

    a false positive premium plugin.

    cheers!

The support is terrible, I have paid for support and sit for days waiting for a reply.

It looks great, but I installed the upgrade, had to uninstall all my data and start again.
I would have given this 5 stars if it worked. It cost me $89 and probably 40 man hours work.

    Simon
