  • Not a problem of the plugin but your hosting plan. Low on memory.

    I wish people posted real reviews and not crappy ones like yours. Such reviews offer no help to new people comming here.

    Wp Super Cache has several problems but what you post is not a plugin problem but yours.

    Fran does have a somewhat legitimate reason to be mad. WP Super Cache is great but it does lack system detection and have removal issues that can sometimes leave new users crippled and unable to fix their problems if they are new to wp.

    I myself found my website unable to load when I removed this plugin. Found out it changed the normal access to the static access and didn’t fix it before removal. I was lucky I had enough Linux skills which allowed me to login via FTP and shell to edit the config and .htaccess file to regain access to the website.

    Just saying so please calm down Mass.
    I was almost in his shoes. Almost:)

    Let this be a sign that WPS still needs tiny bits of work on their plugin.

    Massimo, not everyone has the technical skills that you have.
    Blaming Fran or the hosting plan it useless: should be documented the risk, should be documented the fix.

    I faced the same issue and could get rid of the problem in 5 minutes or less, but as cybervang says, it’s the plugin that should be a little smarter.

    @cmodl

    If people want to run WP to crappy hosts, it is not something WP or WP Super Cache should warn about.

    Crap Hosting is Crap Hosting, by any other name. Not a Plugin Problem and that is a BAD way to REVIEW it. Wp Super Cache has many problems but THIS is not one of them.

    Yes, should warn.
    Crap hosintg is crap hosting, I agree.
    You remind me developers saying that a bug is not a bug but a feature…
    I DO expect that the software (or anything else) I use documents requirements, at least.

    So NOt writing that you should not install this plugin if you do not have XXX memory available it is a plugin problem, the review is relevant and, let me say, helpful.

    a helpful answer, would be to escalate the issue to the developers and, at the same time, write a workaround for users with newbie skills, don’t you think so?

    @cmondl

    I’m not a developer, i’m just an experinced user of WP.

    WP Super Cache is not for everybody i guess, smaller caching plugins exist for Shared Hosting. Like Hyper Cache.

    The poster here put a Title that WP Super Cache RUINED his Blog. No plugin can ruin a WP site, apparently the user doesn’t have a CLUE of what he is doing.

    So to end this, this was not a review but a technical problem that HIS hosting company could solve with a Support Ticket.

    You still don’t understand the point.

    have a nice day.

    @massimod @cmondl has a good point. It’s very important that a plugin makes some sort of effort in assuring compatibility. Detecting, reverting configs & re-writes upon removal, reverting if page loads error and as @cmondl has clearly stated, the plugin simply needs to be more intelligent. That’s it. Recognizing the hosts limitations. There’s so many sources to read and to gather data from to know the system does not meet standards.

    Aside from these little things.

    All in all it is a great plugin if your server is setup perfectly with standard settings and the required specs.

    I always tell my clients that they must make effort in making sure their host is WP & WP SC ready.
