I Love You!

  • This is going to save me a TON of time.
    I normally use Chrome’s developer tools to sleuth out the styles I need to override in combination with another code editor when styling my child theme. This eliminates the need for those. It will be especially handy for situations when I’m away from my dual monitor work station with all my coding software and I want to make a quick design change.

    UPDATE: I was so excited about this plugin that I wrote the part below before I had found all the features – it actually do everything I listed below except to create new files

    Sure, there are still situations that this plugin won’t cover. I may need to go directly into the css file – maybe to add a before or after selector, or I may want to modify header and footer php files, create special page templates or add functions, but a plugin that makes 90% of the workload a ton easier deserves 5 stars. I’m especially excited about the version feature and the ability to roll back if I really screw something up.

    You can add :before and :after pseudo classes (or any other selector variation) using the Raw CSS input.

    You can also use the Files tab to copy parent templates into the child theme, then edit them using Appearance > Editor.

    The only thing on your list it doesn’t let you do is create new template files.

    If you do manually update the stylesheet, make sure you “Generate Child Theme Files” again so that your changes are parsed into the config data.

    Wow – This plugin is even more comprehensive than I first thought, I just found the “Files” tab that allows you to copy additional template files and edit them using the WordPress theme editor. I’m still going to use my preferred coding tools for that kind of editing because I’m not fond to the WP Theme editor – no line numbers, no backup copies… but it is great that this feature is available.

    Also take a look at IntelliWidget, it will save you time as well.
