• Plenty of features have been built on this plugin, but most of them do not work yet. 10 stars for the design and presentation. But if the functionalities do not work, then all rating hype in this plugin, is useless.

I think the authors are using ‘release free for promotion’ marketing strategy here, but after trying the free lite version now, I am hardly inclined to buy the pro.

  • Actually @csine,

Would you mind telling us what isn’t working?
We have forums where you can inquire. We have documentation on the use of shortcodes and we are most willing to help.

We released this plugin as a free plugin in April and just recently released the pro version. If you were to visit our forums you would find that we have been working with anyone who asked for assistance. And we do so for free. You are welcome to talk with us about whatever it is you find “useless”.

The free version is quite functional.

Well, I installed this plugin for the below features:
    1. Membership & pricing table
    2. Social login & registration
    3. WP Admin & woocommerce ‘My Account’ & profiles integration

I am not really interested on the forum & community integration.

The above 3 features have flaws. I am sure you have tested the plugin with typical blank wordpress installation. But in real world you should test with major/most popular plugins included as well. Plugins like iThemes Security, Wordfence, BackWPUp may be conflicting in my case, but thats how new plugins must improvise. I also have a different name for wp-content folder. If your plugin has hardcoded this configurable WP constant, then it may fail for many WP installs. Always use WP constants wherever applicable.

    1. Membership plugin shows the pricing table fine, but clicking the Sign Up button throws me back to same page. UU admin stats says subscription was created, but where is the subscription? I have Woocommerce Subscription extension, nothing is there… nor do I see UU providing a list of subscriptions anywhere.
    2. Yahoo registration/login throws me back to the same page. Facebook login does redirect me to facebook for approval, but on return, shows a blank page on my site. Twitter login acts same as Yahoo.
    3. The My account section has only Close Account feature, I was expecting the Woocommerce My account to be there at least. Woocommerce My Account is not completely replaced in here (I need the Account Funds extension info to be shown). Also, WP login/register pages do not redirect correctly for me (probably because my install has changed the login url for security – feature of ithemes security).

BTW: I did not say your plugin features are useless, I said the plugin’s rating hype is useless.

    Hi @csine

Thanks for expounding on your review.

You can rule out conflict with Wordfence. I use it on all of my own sites and encourage my clients to use it. In fact, Wordfence is used on our support forums where we have used the free version of Users Ultra and recently upgraded to the pro version of Users Ultra.

We may have an issue with iThemes Security since that plugin facilitates changing the default wp-content folder name. And we will look into that.

    I will check on backwpup.

Regarding the features and saying “most of them do not work yet”. I believe it would be more accurate to say you have a custom setup and Users Ultra doesn’t seem to be working yet with that type of customization.

Suggesting that we are using ‘release free for promotion’ marketing, (while we are doing similarly on our description page as backwpup, Wordfence and iThemes Security and many, many other plugins and themes) is rather unfair, if you haven’t made the same suggestions regarding other plugins and themes.

As stated above, we didn’t start with a pro version. We have only recently introduced it. We offer a pro version if someone wants more functionality than what we are interested in providing for free. We have the free version which is quite functional without the pro version.

What we don’t do that some others do is show features in the dashboard and require the upgrade to see them work, labeling things as “Pro only” or “Available with Premium” or some such thing as graying out or showing inaccessible features. I believe some of those plugins you mentioned push the boundaries of what is allowed by WordPress when it comes to doing exactly that. But, that’s just my opinion of course.

Giving the opportunity for people to see the pro version from our description page with a clickable link is something many other plugins and themes do as well. It’s a common and accepted practice.

We say we integrate with Woocommerce. We do not say we integrate with any Woocommerce extensions. And given the amount of extensions available for Woocommerce, we aren’t going to be able to guess which extensions we should integrate with, nor are we going to try. There may be some we would be interested in integrating with, but to be honest, nobody should expect that we would have provided integration with any extensions for Woocommerce when we say “Woocommerce”. Woocommerce Account Funds is a premium extension. Why would you expect us to integrate with that for free?

Yes, we can do better integrating with different features of Woocommerce possibly, and if you were to visit our forums and place your suggestions in the forum we have set up for feature suggestions, we would be happy to take a look at your suggestion(s).

Most of what you have brought up in this review may just be a result of the one issue you have raised about you changing the wp-content directory name, and our failure to use the WP_CONTENT constant. We are happy to work that out. That is our error, and we will correct that. Thanks for bringing that to our attention.

We hope you will consider visiting our forums. We would welcome you there. You have shared some valuable information, I appreciate that.

I hope this isn’t the last we have the opportunity to speak.

I agree with you, some reviews are completely worthless, both to us and to those who might read them. But some have quite valuable information in them. And therefore, I try to engage some to see how we can make things better. I consider this a review that contains some valuable information, from my perspective some unfair expectations, but some very valuable information. Thanks
