I installed another wordpress blog in a subdirectory, but then afterwards, when I tried to go to my main site:

    https://www.whiskey.puffinhost.com

it was trying to take me to the new wordpress blog.

So I’ve deleted the new blog and removed the database I used for it, but I just get a blank screen.

    and if I type in
    https://www.whiskey.puffinhost.com/wp-admin
then it tries to take me to the admin of the wordpress blog I’ve just deleted!

I think I will have to reinstall my blog right?

but how do I do that without losing my posts, comments etc. Or is there a way to recover it all?

    thanks. Chris.

  • I don’t know how to fix your problem, hopefully someone else will, but if I were you I’d go in and make backups of your database just in case.

yep, good plan. backing up now.
guess that will also make it easier for me to check what’s wrong

nobody have any ideas?? I really don’t want to lose my blog

you need to display a little patience. 24 minutes between posts (basically a bump) is not patient – and you cant “lose posts” by waiting patiently, like a good human, for someone to come along and answer you.

You don’t want to log into graphic bud right? Did you have a look at your .htaccess file? Maybe there’s a redirect set up in there

like a good human? – interesting, I was only trying to stimulate conversation – I’d rather fix this tonight then have to wait til tomorrow evening.

anyway, I don’t believe I have a .htaccess file. At least it’s not showing up in ftp – it may be hidden, but I don’t think wordpress touches that anyway, does it?

yes, like a good human, do you need me to spell out what that means?

This is a volunteer run support forum — posts are answered when they are answered, sometimes waiting is just what you have to do — like it or not.

If thats an issue with you, I suggest looking for paid support. Those avenues are available.

As you said, this is a volunteer run support forum – are you offering any support? No.

Needless to say, I’m just anxious to fix my site, like anyone would be – I don’t think being condescending and antagonistic is helping anyone.

Also, if you could spell out what ‘like a good human’ means, I’d love to see how your definition stands up against Nietzsche’s.

Look, I have better things to do than go back and forth with you — believe it or not. I also dont give a crap what Nietzsche’s definition was — he didnt spend any time on this forum dealing with ppl that “want this want that” and dont look past their own wants long enough to see that there are plenty of other ppl that want something too.

In other words, take a ticket, get in line, and deal with it.

I was NOT initially antagonistic or condescending to you – I merely pointed out to you in a very polite fashion that bumping is frowned upon, (regardless of your intent, btw — stimulating conversation isnt good enough). Feel free, however to take this reply as antagonistic.

    have a great day.

Did you use the same database for both, it would probably be either .htaccess file or its because you may have used the same database in which case wordpress I believe will update your options for the url.

It can be fixed but I cant do much unless I can your database. Check this in your database. Go to table wp-options and check what the siteurl is set to (option_name=”siteurl”)

ha, looks like that other guy got a bit peeved when I pointed out his hypocrisy. Anyway, down to business.

    @hotkee
No, I set up a separate database for it.
Will look into that entry just as soon as I figure out how to do it!

    Thread Starter whiskeylima

    (@whiskeylima)

    I’ve found it in PHPMyAdmin
but all I can see is:

    1 siteurl

I can’t find an option to check what it points to

oh, and thanks for helping hotkee, forget to say that in last post.. still a bit wound up.

    Thread Starter whiskeylima

    (@whiskeylima)

Oh yes! I love you hotkee!

found it in a different bit, and now I can login..
site still won’t work, but that’s progress ??

What is the option_value set to where option_name=’siteurl’.
Thats the first thing to check.

Also check your .htaccess file as suggested by jessn (perhaps copy and paste that here so people can see if there is something redirecting)

If you can login in then simply go to your Settings and check blog address is correct and that wordpress address is correct.
