SEO plugins help you choose keywords to improve search result ranking and structure some webpage elements (title, description, etc.) for search engines. Some SEO plugins also re-use some SEO information to provide a few basic meta tags for social websites (like WordPress SEO, for example).
Jetpack’s publicize publishes the URL of new posts/pages to social websites.
Neither focuses on the information that social websites need. For example, WordPress SEO only provides a few meta tags, only shares the full-size featured image (which may be too small/large, or have the wrong aspect ratio), they don’t handle products or video meta tags unless you purchase addons, and then, they generally focus only on the SEO aspects.
You can publish your post/page URL to social websites, but without the correct meta tags, your posting may not look as good as it should / could to get the most clicks / shares.
WPSSO actually works very well with the combination of an SEO plugin (like WordPress SEO) and a publishing plugin like Jetpack’s publicize. There aren’t really any overlapping features, though you do have to disable the few basic meta tags that WordPress SEO offers (WPSSO will detect and warn you if those basic meta tags are enabled).
