• Just installed and have been working on this site for the past hour and a bit. I’m finding that the Theme Options interface is freezing my computer (new enough laptop running plenty of RAM, etc.); I can’t seem to ‘edit’ the header as in ‘crop’ where I simply want to adjust the parameters to the size of my header – 1200×200 which is less than recommended but results in header being offset and the featured content images are not centered either. The box for sizing the header simply will not adjust. So, jury is still out on this – will give it another couple of hours and probably try a revised header image but so far……. Will revise my initial review as things pan out. Shame, this is the look I’m wanting.

  • How do you know that the issue wasn’t something else in your site? Why didn’t you try to contact the theme’s author about this by posting a topic in the theme’s dedicated sub-forum?

    Try reviewing:

Because this was the most the most basic of installs.
Because there were no plug-ins installed
Because there were no widgets enabled by me.
Because there were only some 6 or 7 pages set up with no content installed.
Because the header image issue only cropped up in this theme while I had utilized the same header on 5 other themes I was testing out (where everything worked fine).
Because the the only issue with the computer freezing was with this Theme’s Options interface.
Because I had utilized exactly the same page, header and feature images in 5 other themes with absolutely no issues
    and mostly
BECAUSE there was a 5 star rating that apparently was put there by the theme author (??)

So, if you’re going to rate your own theme and give it 5 stars and I come along with issues, I’m going to post about it.

AND, finally – I gave up – the customize page continues to freeze and I do not have that issue with any other theme I’m working on – all on the same equipment.

I’ve been working with WordPress for some time – steadily for over 6 years so I didn’t post a review just to be bitchy. I posted it because there appears to be some issues and the 5 star rating appears to be misleading. If I’m wrong, I apologize. But right now – I have sh*tloads of work to do and certainly would love to spend more time debating the merits of my review but unfortunately just don’t have the time. If and when I get a chance – I will post something on the sub-forum but for now, I’ve ditched the theme.

    thanks for your time.

Going to respond to two points in reverse order…

BECAUSE there was a 5 star rating that apparently was put there by the theme author (??)

Whilst I think that reviewing your own theme is rather silly, there’s nothing here that forbids it. And it doesn’t really have a bearing on the quality of the theme, does it? ??

Because the the only issue with the computer freezing was with this Theme’s Options interface.

That’s an interesting issue. Did you raise it with the theme’s developer? Only this theme will have been put through an extensive, manual, review before it was accepted into the WPORG Repository. Yet, I assume, the reviewer didn’t have any such problem. It would be nice if it was raised as a possible bug so that it can either be fixed when the theme is updated next time or (just as likely) the issue with your development environment can be identified.

This does illustrate, to some extent, why we ask people to please, please, contact the plugin/theme developer before posting a review. Posting a review before looking for support is, at best, putting the cart before the horse, or, at worst, trying to leverage priority support by posting a poor review with a promise to “upgrade it if the issues are fixed”. Not that I am saying this was your intention but you can see how such an approach would wreck any review system.

Possibly – and that’s fine, just goes a ‘little’ against the grain.

and yes I know I was hasty (see point above) and I will try to address it and if y’all want to remove my review I’m fine with that too. I just don’t have time to do a more thorough look and analysis right now and my review was a heads up to anyone else who might be experiencing a problem. Forum – yes, got that, practically have it engraved in steel right now. And I should have known better because I have seen plenty of reviews that were hasty or ill-written. Which is probably why in some 8 years of working with WP I rarely do a review.

Finally – yeah, maybe Theme Authors shouldn’t rate their own themes – pretty much a conflict of interest isn’t it. (Ever seen a Theme Author rate his theme less than a 5-star?)

Thanks for the pushback folks – I’ll go crawl back into my lurkcave again where I happily reside.

btw, I’d like to think the Theme Customize page was an issue with my development environment. It quite simply does not reflect the experience where with 5 windows open, the only page freezing was that one. That after a complete close-down and restart, that page was the only one that froze. Yup, could be my dev environment but I’m betting what I’m working with isn’t so different than a number of other peoples. So, bug – perhaps. Of course it’s likely the gremlins that exist to make your life a bit miserable are the issue, Murphy’s law and all that. Finally – as I’ve pointed out, perhaps having the Theme Author ‘rate’ his own theme is a bit like putting the cart before the horse as well.

As I said, please delete my review(s).
