• Gday Guys and Girls,

    Here’s what happened..

I tried to change the directory file my site is in. It was originally at freetosee.tv but I wanted to change it to freetosee.tv/temp as I wanted to work on a new index. So I went in to settings and changed the URL to /temp. I then went and moved the WP files to this new folder with ftp. I then go back in to log in and the site is unreachable.

I can log in but the redirect finds nothing. I have now moved the files back to the original freetosee.tv directory but still cannot access anything. Somehow I need to go in and change the settings back to the original directory, but I still want to move the site to /temp. Also, freetosee.tv is an add-on domain.

I tried to find the file that holds the url info but for the life of me could not. I checked every file that had anything to do with admin and the config.php too. Nothing!!

Please help lads and ladies.. Community loving!

    Scotty Zee

You can also just go in thru PHPMyAdmin and change the URL there.

    OK thanks for that.
I found out the problem, but still can’t fix it.

I have created a new folder to put the WP files in. But I am using an addon domain. So what is happening now is that I have changed the url in settings and uploaded the files to the new folder, however the addon domain is not registering the new folder. So the files in the new folder aren’t being read, and when I try to log in to wp-admin it redirects me the the url or the folder I created that I changed in word press settings, but those files are not being read, so I am on a constant loop of redirect and not being able to log-in.

Is there a way to change the url through the files in ftp rather than through settings? If I can do this I will be able to fix this I’m sure..

Please guys help. I need to get this site back online.

wp-Config.php is the first file I went to. I have gone back there now and found no code WP_SITEURL or WP_HOME. I am using the latest version of WP. This code seems to be only for 2.2. Is there a way to do this for 2.5?

Can I just add these commands to the 2.5 wp-config.php?

ScottyZee if you are trying to reset the siteurl/home, go to the database first. Look in table wp-options for option-name=”siteurl” and edit that. then things should start working

I tried adding the code but nothing worked.

The weird thing is that the html shows up in the browser but it looks like with no css. Even stranger is that whether the files are in the original folder in the root directory or in the new folder it still shows the html. So strange.

    Any ideas?

If you can login into the admin area, then go to settings and correct the home and blog urls.

    grasshoppa must read better.

Another new wp-config.php option, added as of WordPress Version 2.2, is WP_SITEURL.

    Another …

That says it was added .. not “for” that means it was added in 2.2. It works just fine in all new versions of WP

    Thanks.

Now I have a major problem. I got the site back but a super old version. A months work is somehow gone?? No idea what’s happened.

I’m so funcking sick of this BS. I need a developer for a media platform. I am about to receive funding and need this done properly. I have been trying to make something myself to get by for now, but this has finished me. I am not a developer. I am great at what I do, but this is not it. Time for a Pro!

    Enough.

If you have a budget, it’s best to mention it up front. Good luck with it.
