All my index files have been deleted, please HELP!

  • Hi there,

    yesterday my host has been hacked by a person from Turkey, he left all files alone except for the index files, this means that I am unable to retrieve anything as I don’t have a homepage anymore neither am I able to enter the admin parts ??

    PLEASE advise what I can do here?

  • if someone broke into your house, and stole your television, what would you do? You would go buy another.

    Go download whatever version of WP you were using, and RE-UPLOAD the deleted files.

    Do I just install a new version in another file and copy and paste the index files in the ‘damaged version’?

    PS: How can I find the version I was using without having to login to my admin?

    I found my version: 2.3.1 using wp-includes/version.php

    unfortunately I am still unsure what to do next, I downloaded another version 2.3.1 which is sitting on my laptop.

    What do I need to do to recover the index files which have been over written by this hacker? I tried to simply overwrite them but that didn’t work ??

    Please help?

    Once again, ALL files are still there, except the index files.

    If the hacker didn’t mess up your database all your entries, categories, archives, etc are there don’t worry.

    yes, everything is still there as far as I can see. Perhaps I have to do an easy action to solve my problems. So if someone can help me out I would appreciate that a lot guys!!

    Poe, I just uploaded the mail index file as well the index files in the wp-admin and wp-includes files. Unfortunately his sign is still there ??

    Strange as I deleted his index file….

    Does somebody know where the index get’s feeded from? Perhaps I need to look into that?

    It’s stupid I never backupped my stuff, I know ?? But I still think there’s a big chance I will be able to restore the index files.

    what about doing an upgrade? Does anyone believes this would help?

    If hacker files keep reappearing, you are still hacked. The bad stuff may be hiding inside your theme files and/or core WordPress files, inside your WordPress folders, in your database, elsewhere on your website, or on your web host’s server (contact your web host about this). Reuploading index files will not solve your problem if the hack is still altering/overwriting them.

    ok, I upgraded my WP to the latest version, I am able to enter my admin where I am looking at all my posts + pictures (hurrah haha)

    the only thing is the index file of orangeville.nl. For some reason it still shows the hackers page. I am 100% sure he only touched the index files as I can see the date each file has been changed.

    so all I need is a proper index file which shows exactly what my wp-admin file shows and I am done ??

    But, who can help me with that guys?
