• If I have security set for anything at less than 777 for the wp-content folder, not only can I not backup the database, but the website does not work. Visitors will see only a blank screen.

Every time a software developer has told me that 777 is not a security problem, my site has been hacked. Why does WP 2.5.1 need to have the wp-content folder set to 777 and is there anything that can be done about it?

I have several blogs and I’m very reluctant to update the others. I’m waiting for my site to be hacked.
