Unnecessary hoops to jump through

  • Installed, but had security/permissions issues. I don’t really want to make any directory on my site have 777 permissions. Installed Flexible Posts Widget, and it did the job without having to make any other modifications. Seems like a much better alternative.

    The plugin uses TimThumb for the image manipulation, a popular library that’s used by hundreds of WordPress themes and plugins.

    It certainly can be more difficult to configure than the FPW method, but each have their pro’s and cons. FPW is easier to setup. TimThumb has cropping and sizing options you could not do with FPW.

    Ultimate Posts is installed on our client’s site and runs fine with cache permissions set at 755. We never use 777 for any file, and we haven’t needed to. This worked perfectly as-is.
