• I have followed the instructions and cannot get this to work. I have a self-hosted wordpress blog with no api key. Ive been instructed to go here for info
    https://wordpress.com/api-keys/
this tells me to register by signing up for a new account. so I get a key but it doesnt apply to my existing account. I get an API key for my new wordpress.com account but not my blog. Is there a way to apply my api key from my new account to my existing blog?

  • same here. I’m hosting my blog outside of wordpress.com, and there’s no connection between my blog and the API I got from creating an account on wordpress.com.

How do you get an API key for an exisitng (non wordpress.com hosted) blog?

    Thanks!

By following those directions. what “connection” are you seeking? You get the api key, you put it into the box on your self hosted blog, and you click the button. Connection made.

    Its. not. that. hard.

Your API key can be used on any wordpress site (well, sorta) You get the API key from wordpress.com and then you use it for any and all of your WordPress Blogs.

Hey I have an APIKey that is nto the problem BUT When i go to register it in my Host wordpresss it it fails. I think this is teh sameproblem that others are reporting.

The message stats that there is a socket problem and thatmy server can not communicte with WordPress’s server. It says contact your host. No more information. I am my own host. No information available as to what is wrong just check your settings.

    $%#^&*^%

After a lot of stuffing around and NO-SUPPORT from WP or any help in the WP documentation or BB’s I finally worked it out.

All I had to do was add a PHP.ini file to the wp-admin directory and review the “disable_functions=” options. Simplereally. Why did no one catch on to this. A local PHP.ini file overrides the default which on my server is disabled.

All is now working. Thanks but no thanks…

This is crap, the API key works for wordpress.com hosted blogs but not for Self Hosted BLogs
