how to change the author link name

the Author link was displaying my username instead of display name .
i used this plugin to change it : plugin name Edit Author Slug .

but i want to change it from code.i just used the plugin as a temp fix .

This option should be available by default in your profile.

When you are logged in go to your edit profile page, make sure you have filled in your name and saved the changes then look for the option titled “Display name publicly as” and change the option in the drop down to be what you want!
