    We have a theme where all instances of Shareaholic are manually inserted, so we don’t have anything selected in the display settings. However on inspection Shareaholic is inserting an unwanted share bar inside the WordPress footer, and this bar floats on the left side of the page: https://screencast.com/t/sz81u290g

    We don’t want this being automatically inserted. If nothing is selected in the Settings, nothing should show unless it’s manually placed. Why is this extra bar being forced in the WordPress footer?

    Hi invest0r7, what is the Site ID of the instance of Shareaholic you’re using?

    It will be in the following form: (in bold)

    <script type=’text/javascript’ data-cfasync=’false’
    src=’//dsms0mj1bbhn4.cloudfront.net/assets/pub/shareaholic.js’
    data-shr-siteid=’XYZ‘ async=’async’ >
    </script>

    We can turn off the Floated Share Buttons App for the specific Site ID. Ideally, each site the theme is installed on should have its own Site ID. A Site ID can be created on Shareaholic.com by the theme user. All settings are linked to the Site ID.

    You can also edit the settings of the Floated Share Buttons directly if you have the plugin installed.

    1) Go to Shareaholic -> App Manager
    2) Click “Configure Additional Features” in the right sidebar

    Thanks for the reply.

    That’s okay I hid it with CSS. But the big problem is we make tons of sites with this theme over and over. So we obviously can’t have you turn it off for them all. ?? Is there a way this can be turned off by default? I would think Shareaholic should just display the buttons where people indicate in the display settings page anyway? Not sure if this is a new thing or not but I don’t recall this happening before.

    EDIT: just saw your edit,I’ll look into that right now, thanks

    I see those configurable options require an account. I wouldn’t be able to do that for every site we do. We literally pump out tons of these. Can that option be in the plugin without needing an account?

    I see that you can have multiple sites under one account, so that does help. I guess I can modify that floating option for all the sites using the same account.

    However I guess I’d just still make the suggestion to have it off by default since it can have unexpected results for people. Plus having it off might give more incentive for people to sign up for an account if they want floating buttons.

    Thanks

    Noticed other people have posted about this too. Any update on this? This new feature where the floating share buttons are ON by default is basically adding this bar to previously-built websites when they simply update the plugin, which is nuts. It makes no sense to just automatically insert something like this. Please have it OFF by default. Thoughts?

    Hi there –

    It’s true that for new installations we now have the Floated Share Buttons ON by default. This is by popular demand as it’s what a lot of publishers/bloggers are looking for.

    However, it shouldn’t automatically turn itself on by just updating the plugin. It should require a full reset or re-installation in order for that to happen to an existing site. We have had a number of people do this and inadvertently turn on their Floated Share Buttons, which we realize is confusing and we’re working to figure out how to make it easier and clearer to get the features you want.

    For your own situation, yes we do recommend creating all the sites under one account, as you can get a new one created in the UI in just a few seconds, and then toggle floated share buttons to off. If this isn’t working for any reason, just contact us – support at shareaholic – and we can work with you to try and come up with a solution!

    Best,

    Unfortunately I have to stop using this wonderful plugin just because of the floating bar issue.

    It’s nonsense having to link each web with a Shareaholic account just to disable an option not to mention that there are webs where the verifying process doesn’t work.

    I hope there will be soon an update with this option disabled for default.

    Hi @soydelia

    Thanks for the feedback. We are going to work to make this able to be disabled from the WordPress plugin page so that an account doesn’t need to be created. It’s a setting we definitely need to make available ASAP.

    Best,
    Greg

    That is great news, thanks!
