UM plugin emails not being sent. All other site emails are fine

    Hi. This was working a couple of days ago. The site was happily sending emails to pending users, a new user notification email to admin and finally an approved email to the user (once approved). Today, no one is getting emails (including users or admin). I use an SMTP plugin which has a test email which works and arrives, so email is working in general, but not the UM emails. Any ideas most welcome. Note: UM settings pages have ON for all emails and notifications. Thanks.

  • Had any new updates lately? did you do the standard trouble-shooting procedure?

    I do plugin updates manually and haven’t touched those (apart from the UM plugin which I updated, just in case, but it didn’t help). Just checked my mail queue and all the UM ones are getting bounced with “550-Requested action not taken: mailbox unavailable\n550 invalid DNS MX or A/AAAA resource record”, even though emails from other plugins to and from identical email addresses are being delivered fine. ??

    I tried disabling all non-essential plugins apart from UM briefly, but no joy.

    It’s almost certainly something I’ve done, but I’m stumped!

    I think my SPF TXT record had the wrong IP address. No idea why it all worked fine before, but maybe it got flagged as spam. I’ve changed it and will test for a bit – I guess it will take time to replicate across all the DNS. I’ll report back tomorrow.

    Right, all working fine today (just had to wait for all the DNS to notice) with my normal SMTP plugin. And I’ve also changed to the Amazon SES plugin which is also working perfectly (just for some extra protection against being flagged as spam).
