Hi, Thank you for your suggestion. I will check if it is possible to add this feature (without requiring too many hacks ?? and I will let you know if/when it is added!

Hi NPLD, the “Save and Return” action was added! I hope it does what you want.

The new Save and Return function is great and works well. One little downside is that the idea of the feature is to take people back to the previous list page where they came from etc but it has a bit of an odd effect when you use the normal Public button a few times within an edit and the press the Save and Return button. It takes you back to the previous page from the Publish and does not return you to the page from where you originally came. The logic should be that when you first display the Save and Return button your should store in say a transient the page where you came from and then each time the Save and Return button is pressed the transient should be cleared. This way you will be returned to the list page rather than the previous page.

Hi nathanwright. Thank you for taking the time to give feedback. I’m not 100% sure I understand the steps you describe, but I will give you a use case that I think is what you describe. I also give you the expected result of that use case when you click “Save and Return”. If this use case is what you are saying but the end result is not the same, then it is a bug. If the use case is not what you describe, tell me.

    Use case :
    – The user is on page “A” which is not a post edit page, but contains a link to edit a post (ex: a post list page, a frontend page with the admin bar, etc.).
    – The user clicks on a link to edit a post ( -> the user goes to the post edit page).
    – The user clicks the regular “Publish/Update” button (once or more) ( -> the post is saved and the same post edit page is shown again).
    – The user clicks on the “<Save> and Return” button action.

Expected result: after that last step, it brings the user back to page “A”, even if the regular “Publish/Update” button was clicked before.

If the use case is what you describe, but you don’t get the expected result, could you give me more details (the exact page “A” you have, where you click, etc.).

    Thank you again.

    Hi,

Yes the use case you have explained is exactly the situation I am experiencing. The odd thing is that I have just tried to replicate this on another device and it is working fine. I have now cleared the cache on the original device and it appears to be work as it should be.

Sorry about that, it looks like it was down to my browser cache and not your plugin which is working great, I really do love the feature.

Is there any plans to add the option to hide the normal publish / update button so my users have to use your button?

Thanks, keep up the great work.

    Hi Label Blanc,
Thank you very much for adding the “Save and Return” function, which has helped me a lot. The function works great and has helped me a lot – thanks !!

    Hi Nevil,

Sorry for the (outrageously long!) delay. Originally, the idea of the plugin was to add a button with additional options, but not to replace the main “publish” button. I will, though, think if the plugin should have an option to replace the button.
