WP Super Cache doesn't cache 404s… should it? (renewed)

  • It might be because if this was enabled, someone could easily attach your site by causing it to produce endless number of 404 pages.
    The way I deal with this is using plugins such as this:

    That’s a good point, though until it hit some critical threshold those 404 pages being cached would potentially save your server from such an attack. Another cache plugin, I forgot which (maybe Gator) sends a warning when the size of the cache hits a certain threshold. WP Super Cache could do the same and let the user define what that is (either in total number of 404 pages or size on disk or both). It would also be very cool to see the 404 pages maintained separately so they could be cleared separately as well if so desired.

    WP SC doesn’t cache 404 if the re-write serve method is selected.
