WooCommerce – is it possible to sell gift certificates without an extension/plug

  • Hi, Is it possible to sell gift certificates using JUST WooCommerce? I am a WordPress newbie, working on a small site (https://www.sendmecakes.co.uk) and at this point they don’t want to commit to exta plugins or costs for extensions.
    I would really appreciate advice on whether it is possible to implement basic gift tokens (either for buyer to print and send or for the site owner to print and send) using ‘vanilla’ woocommerce install on the Virtue Free theme. My best guess is to use a ‘virtual’ variable product or a coupon, but I’m hoping someone can point me to an example of what can be done without further plugins/extensions.

  • I have no experience with this either. I’d also suggest the virtual product unless they want to get involved in mailing out cards with some sort of specialized coupon code it.

    If the virtual product doesn’t work and mailing isn’t preferable or feasible, it might be worth contact someone for custom work when they’ve got a little money to invest. This doesn’t sound like a complicated thing to build, so maybe it can get built for cheap. Never hurts to ask.
