    When I run the “Scan Threat” using stop-spammers I get a list of 38 saying their “could be” problems, including: wp-content/plugins/stop-spammer-registrations-plugin/stop-spammer-registrations-new.php 408: $class=new $file();

    I also get some showing Valutpress and Wordfence which are suppose to also help with security.

    I am a novice and have no idea if these are serious threats. does anyone have any advice for me? Thanks!

  • These are obviously pieces of good code, that only looked suspicious.

    I try to filter these out so that nobody panics, but the current version is out of date with everything. Some plugins use functions that could be used maliciously but, of course, are not.

    These are not threats, but it is good that you asked.

    One thing, why are you running WordFence, VaultPress and Stop Spammers all on the same machine? There will be conflicts. Each of these plugins is “heavy” – they use up lots of memory. You could get into problems running your site. You should pick one security plugin and delete the others.

    Thank you Keith for letting me know those messages on Spam-Stoppers aren’t dangerous.

    I am running all of those plugins because I thought “more is better?” I started with wordfence but was still getting LOTS OF SPAM. Then I added Stop Spammers and that helped some. Then I added Vaultpress to do daily backups.

    So you’re saying I don’t need all three. Which would you recommend?

    Thanks for your help ~Kathy

    I wrote stop spammers so I have my own opinions, but I have heard that wordfence is good for keeping out the bad guys.

    I had a very cheap hosting company so I had trouble running it because wordfence uses a good chunk of memory. If it runs fine on your system then go for it.

    Hi Keith!

    Oh, got it. You are the author. Thank you for your plugin. I’m convinced it has helped my site tremendously.

    My only problems (in a perfect world of course) are those 38 issues that your “threat scan” list. If you don’t think they are a problem then I will conveniently just ignore them. ??

    Thanks again for helping a novice like me.

    ~Kathy
