I tried to add the password field in the registration form, but the choosen pass doesnt work after the user is approved. Instead the user must click on the reset link to get a new password.
Thats a bit confusing, is there a way to disable the reset link email and let the user shoose a password from the registration form?

  • In WP-Admin under Ultimate Member, Settings, Email, you may disable the password reset email.

The user’s chosen password on the registration form should work, though. Have you required each user to select a strong password? You may do so under Ultimate Member, Settings, Users, but also need to do so on the registration form. If there is a mismatch between the two, you may have a problem.

    Hope this helps!

    Hello @verysiberian,

    thank you for your help.
I had a look at the settings, its in both places the same: no strong password required.
Also i tested it again, the initial password doesnt work after i approved the user.

What else could be the problem here?

Sorry if this is obvious, but have you tried registering as a new user yourself just to test the registration form? Does the chosen password work when you enter the one you picked yourself? I’m just wondering if your user is the problem here.

Or, if you want someone external to test your form, I’m happy to try it. Just post the link and I’ll try it out.

Thank you for thinking of this, but its myself who is testing this.
So i can be sure its not the user.

I just registered. You have it set up so that the admin must approve all members. I will try to log in once you approve me. (I assume that wasn’t the problem — you were testing the login yourself AFTER approving yourself as a member, not before?)

    you are approved now ??
Yes, i tested the password after approving myself.

Okay, I see exactly what you mean. I entered the exact same password used for registration but it is showing the UM error message, “Password is incorrect. Please try again.”

Do you have any other plugins, such as security plugins, that do anything to restrict or modify passwords?

Well, rats, I’m sorry that I wasn’t able to help. I can confirm the reality of your problem, though. I registered for your site, you approved me, and then I tried to log in. I both cut and pasted the password I selected at registration and tried to type it in manually. On both occasions, I got the password incorrect error message. However, when I reset my password, your site allowed me to log in with it. This is indeed quite odd.

Off the cuff, the only thing that comes to mind is the possibility of some other plugin (probably security related) interfering with the storage of the password.

Feel free to delete my test account and best wishes to you. ??

thank you for testing and confirming this!
I have no other security plugins installed, only adminimize.

Wait a second, I think I found something. While browsing around your site, it seems that the pages are variably set with http vs. https. I do not consistently get a lock icon on your pages. If so, then the registration page may be encrypted (https) but other pages may not be, which would result in different password outputs. This may be worth exploring.

You may also try copying the settings I am using exactly as shown in these two screenshots.

Note that I am using strong passwords but am not having the problem you’re encountering. Perhaps this will give you a temporary workaround. Good luck!

Strange, i see a padlock on all pages here. (using firefox and Chrome)
Also i tested the ssl again with this tool: https://www.jitbit.com/sslcheck/
    and all was fine.

But your hint is very good, i will try to disable ssl for the register page.

Do your meta keys match for the password field on the registration and login forms exactly? I think that your problem is now bothering me more than you! ??
