• Hi, Love your plugin!

I had someone point out to me that I was not longer accepting submissions, and what I find is that they are all getting the error: Address cannot be located on Google Maps:

The challenge is, that the address is actually good, and IS on Google maps. I can confirm it by searching Google.

Any ideas? I’ve not seen this error before, and have been running your plugin for a few years now ??

    Here is my code:

    [yardsale-form event=”TrouperList” mapheight=”360px” mapwidth=”100%” lat=”33.0362218″ lng=”-85.03224439999997″ zoom=”12″ citydefault=”LaGrange” statedefault=”GA” zipdefault=”30240″ unitlabel=”Date for Sale”]

I’ve tried many addresses, including my work, and my house. I get the same message regardless.

It probably means that your browser cannot contact the Google Maps API to verify the address. Maybe this is a temporary issue. Try it again. Or it might be that it is blocked by a firewall on your network.

Hi again, I have ruled out temporary and firewall/network unless it is something server side…?

I can view an old map I saved on my site, so Form Event codes work. However, Listing Event will not work for any address, as they all receive the same message :

“Address cannot be located on Google Maps:
…and then it lists the full address that was entered into the form.

One other observation, I can no longer use the feature: Center The Google Map to display your community yard sale area. When I put in the city o center on like I normally do, it doesn’t move off Washington DC. It’s like it cannot understand the text field I’m submitting into.

Any other ideas? I did try changing the Event Tag, and tried creating a whole new Short Code, but it also did not work.

I do LOVE this plugin! I hope to get it rolling again… I’ll try anything!

    Cheers!

I’ve learned recently that the Google Map will not work in the plugin for web site domains registered after June 22, 2016. This is a Google thing. You now have to get an API key from Google for new sites (old ones are grandfathered in). But I have to update the plugin to allow you to enter and use the API key. I’m looking into what I need to do.

Thank you again for the response! The domain I use your plugin on (www.thetrouper.com) was registered years ago though… In fact, your plugin has been in use for years on that domain. It just stopped working and not accepting any more inputs.

Since I tried to reset the short code, and I can no longer ‘center the map’, the code on my site now is pointing to Washington DC.

I do have my own Google Maps API key though, I think. ??

If there are things I can do to help you, please let me know.

As I pointed out to Michael, simply having an API key will not solve this issue. He will need to code the ability to add your Google Maps API key into a filed inside the plugin. I suspect that it will be facilitated on the settings page of the plugin (as that seems a logical place to put it).

That said, if you have an installation using this plugin that was built prior to June 2016 your maps will still work because Google allowed backward (but not forward) compatibility to the map api.

I’m releasing version 1.1.6 today. You will need to get and install an API key for new domains.

Still getting the same error after update and clearing cache and checking in 3 different browsers? Are you getting different or same results or have other steps I may have overlooked?

I didn’t need to clear the cache or anything like that.
    – I added the key
    – saved
    – refreshed the page again and it worked

I can remove and replace the key and see it not work/work accordingly (do an extra page refresh after changing). I’m testing on Chrome and Firefox on Mac.

When I look at the browser Developer Tools Javascript Console,

    – When I have no key saved, it shows MissingKeyMapError
    – When I put in an invalid key it shows InvalidKeyMapError
    – When the key is good I see no errors

Well it displays the map fine inside the plugin now but on the actually web page I still get the Google error

I did a quick check using a Windows 7 VM and it seems OK there. I can see the map on my site on IE and Chrome. I see it in the admin page, and on pages with the short code.

Do you get any error in the Javascript console?

    No errors are being reported.

    Hi,
I really loved your plugin.thank you for such a great plugin. However i am a new user of your plugin and when I try to submit listing, I see following error..
“There is already an entry for that address. If you are updating an entry, use the link sent to you in an email when you first entered your listing. If you share the address, use a different unit number”

I have tried with different address and different emails..but of no use. However I can see that that address is listed in google map on listing page. Please help!

    Thank you!

When you fill out the form, after you enter the address, but before you submit the form, does the google map update to show the correct location that you entered?

    Thanks for quick reply!
    Yes, it shows updated location.

But not exact location on map ??
