• I have just downloaded a really awesome theme…you can see it at https://www.wp-themes.der-prinz.com/magazine/ Best of all, it is free!!!

The problem is…I am newb at this blogging stuff. I have just downloaded and installed an add-in for Firefox called Firebug that allows me to look at the coding that makes this so cool. Is it ethical to copy the coding from this demo page into my page and then make the appropriate changes? I will not change the footer containing the designers name, etc.

I have an immediate need to display information, much sooner than my blogability will let me completely understand this page and work from the ground up…but I don’t want to violate someone else’s work.

  • by copy the coding do you mean to follow the information of where to put the various category id’s and how to insert the pictures?

If it is a better way would be to follow the tutorials

I was thinking of just copying the coding and changing names, pictures, etc. I understand how the templates work for most of this. I still do not understand how the template for the main page works – I think it is called index.php. That is the major work of art, that makes it sooooo awesome…but all I have been able to do so far is put normal posts and pages on it, not to have the topic format on the original. I need to have the topic format so that I can update each topic either weekly, biweekly or monthly, and allow for associated responses.

can you post up a link where i can download this theme? the link you posted only lets me view the finished theme. thanks

    edit: nevermind got it

It’s kind of ironic you’re worried about violating copyright by customizing that theme, considering the theme itself is mostly a copy of another designer’s work — with very few minor changes.

Take a look at the original: Mimbo. Mimbo is also free.

lol, agree Rosie, I use Mimbo on one of my sites and the original (index.php) is a little different from a ‘general’ WP theme but once you read the instructions (several times ; ) it’s just as easy to edit as any other and it helps that Mimbo’s site is full of instructions to help you along.
