• This is killing me.

So, every wordpress theme I attempt to use displays as if the styling is somehow broken; sample images do not display, borders are missing and the front page shows just the standard post list, not the theme example front page. This occurs with previews of all themes and those that I install.

example, using the Twenty Sixteen theme: https://www.alluna.at

I’m using a server running Ubuntu 14.04 and Apache2, also with virtual hosts to other sites, one of which is WordPress and also experiencing the same issue.

I won’t offer to buy a beer for the person that helps me as there’s rules against that but I would be incredibly grateful. What do you need to know?

    Thanks,

    Michael.

Forgot to disable the ‘coming soon’ plugin. The page is now viewable. Please… help.

themes often come ’empty’, i.e. without sample images etc.

start adding your own images etc for example by using the ‘appearance – customize’ section or any available theme options.

Hi Michael – thanks for the advice but unfortunately this isn’t the issue. Even the preview of the themes display without any images (only when I view them through the wordpress installation, on the wordpress website they display normally).

    Any other ideas?

on the wordpress website they display normally

are you referring to a WordPress.com theme site, or to a theme website for .org themes?

can you post some example links?

The site https://www.alluna.at looks normal for a theme without any content.

So maybe what you need is to fill the website with some content and images.

Then, you start customizing the theme with CSS & HTML

If you go to the TwentySixteen page and click the Preview button, you will see a picture of a boat and a number of different sections that show different styling. That preview, however, is not going to display what the actual layout of the theme is going to look like, it’s just going to give you an idea as to what the different font styles are going to be. That’s going to be true of most of the themes in the WordPress theme repository, most of the previews are going to look very similar (a picture of a boat and similar sections that show font styles). The only way to really know what a theme is going to look like is to install it on your site.
