• Hi there,

I’m looking some help to install an automated update to get my site running on WordPress 4.5.3.

The email I received swears it’s quick and easy but I’m getting the below error message. Can anyone advice me (as if you are speaking to a computer-illiterate 5 year old) how to fix this?

    Many thanks in advance.

    Paul

the issue is “Permission denied”. The ownership or file permissions are incorrect for one or more files and directories in your web tree.

Have you tried the manual update?

    Thanks Sterndata.

Not sure I feel confident updating manually. So much within the short instructions means absolutely nothing to me. And I’m afraid to click on the link to the more detailed instructions.

I guess I’ll let it trundle along on 3.8 until it stops working.

    Thanks all the same.

That’s like saying my car leaving a big trail of smoke and parts are falling off, but I’m not going to get it fixed.

3.8 is WAY out of date and not secure.

Your file system permissions are incorrect. Fix those and the update will work. Because you’re using Windows, I can’t advise you on how to do that, but maybe someone else will jump in.
