    Hello there,

It seems the error is showing due to some issue with SSL Certificate in your host. Can you please follow the below thread where there is proposed a solution.

    Thanks.

You can bypass this problem by installing the plugin using the ‘upload option’. You simply download the plugin then upload the plugin it should work. It worked for me but the problem was Hostgator in my case.

I installed the plugin by GitHub for this problem, it just worked. No fuss.

Side note and off topic: @katebologna22, the GitHub link you posted does not go to GitHub!!

Sorry, in addition, I thought it worked but did not for more than just the one. I am still having the problem and cannot make contact with Hostgator Support. I can hard load some of the plugins as a work around, but I also get the error when updating WordPress on a couple sites, and I don’t know how to hard load wordpress. Thoughts?

WordPress support suggested that up upgrade my PHP configuration to 7.0 and it fixed the error.

I found I’ve been having this issue for the last couple or so days and I came here looking to see if someone else is/has, too. I found this thread and this lady’s solution here:
