• Hi,
I have this issue on two websites who use Adsense and both of them are showing Adsense blank white ads frequently.

The account is an old one Adsense authorized and approved. I’m talking with Adsense support but nothing, they are asking to check WP.

I’ve noticed that the iframe of the white ads is an empty iframe.

When blank ads are shown if page is refreshed than ads work properly.

Do you have some hint on how I can debug what is going on?

I’m using twentyfifteen custom child theme.

    Thks

  • Well, the ads are showing fine for me. I’m guessing the code is fine and this probably more of a question for Google. If I remember correctly when building your adsense code you can specify what to do if there are no ads to show – it may be worth taking a look at that.

    Hi Dartiss,

    Thank you for your time.

Yes I know about backup ads feature and how to implement them, but I would try to minimize such blank ads.

It’s really seems that is an issue with G side.

It happens on most sites using AdSense from time to time. Sometimes the page load didn’t catch the complete command or Google just does a hiccup and no ad shows. That’s why most websites running AdSense are loading really slow most of the time, because Google’s engines are not keeping up with their demand fast enough, billions of ads all at once being called means seized browsers until the ads load. It’s not your site’s fault. It’s on their end.

When I’ve seen this happen, I just Refresh/reload the page and the ads usually come back.

@lizardhr – I think you misunderstand. Not setting something for the blank ads doesn’t reduce them, it just defines what Google does if it serves a blank one. What YOU need to work out is whether they’re blank because Google doesn’t have anything to serve up OR because there’s a technical fault – by defining, say, a coloured background as the alternative to blank then you’ll be able to do this.

But I agree with @musicalhelp – this will be a Google issue rather than anything you’re doing wrong on your site.

@dartiss I have understood fine, and I know how to implement backup ads in case G has nothing to show.

I only would like to try minimize such blank ads, if it’s possible, or debug better on server side.

But I’m feelling that is only G fault, like what it seems.

Fair enough. If you could be so kind, please mark this discussion as “resolved”. Thanks.

There is an option on Google to set a color for the background in case of blank ads. I think it even says that. I know I remember setting mine to show my site color for blanks. So in that case, even Google admits that blank ads may appear sometimes.

Yes, sometimes blank ads may appear but the number of occurrences for that site seems too much, especially at first load.

Ok, thank’s I know the option about setting a bck color for for empty ads.

If can help anyone, here is explained how to set different behaviour for empty ads:
    Backup ads

My matter is to debug as much as I can from my side, I think that if G is really not sending ads may be due to a non willing ad for that slot at that time. But they are only admitting that the number of occurrences is really high.
