Error updating plugins and themes (ssh authentication)

    I have set up updates using this tutorial and it has worked fine for more than 6 months. Now everytime i try to update/remove a plugin or a theme, it asks for ssh login details (which are completed) but it doesn’t connect and gives this error message:

    “ERROR: There was an error connecting to the server, Please verify the settings are correct.”

    I have verified settings and they are correct. Files have the correct permissions (for ssh authentication).

    I have also checked apache error log but it doesn’t contain anything.
    AFAIK this started to happen as soon as I installed Wordfence plugin. I have removed it manually and the problem persists.

    Can someone help me troubleshoot? Thank you

    @esmi yes, the ssh php extension is installed. The website has been working for 6 months without a single problem and the updates have been managed with ssh. Now it is showing me the problem.

    If nothing has changed on the sites, then it implies that there’s an issue with the server. I’m afraid my detailed knowledge in this area isn’t extensive but you might be able to get some better eyes on this if you try posting in the Localhost Installs forum.

    AFAIK this started to happen as soon as I installed Wordfence plugin. Do you think it might have something to do with the error?
