calendar plugin breaks admin dashboard

When activated, the simple calendar displays its welcome/setup page https://imgur.com/bMGQ7gB on top of the main dashboard. Clicking any link or option on the admin sends the user back to this page – effectively breaking the dashboard.
The only way to disable the plugin at this point is to manually rename its directory in wp-content/plugins.
