404 Page Not Found Error On wp-admin Page

  • I have been getting a 404 Page Not Found error message when I try to access my wp-admin page and sometimes my website or my wp-login.php page. The message is:

    PAGE NOT FOUND

    We cannot locate the page you’re looking for. Please check the address and make sure all letters are lowercased with no spaces.

    I am concerned about whether my site is showing on the Internet or not. What do you think might be causing this? What might fix it?

  • Hi, debmund, & welcome to the WordPress support forum.

    Gosh–there’s just a lot you’re not telling us, & it makes it really tough to diagnose the problem without the information. The first thing that is often very helpful is to give us a site url. Has this happened only recently or has this been going on for awhile (or is it a recent install & has never worked?).

    What themes and plugins are you using? Can we see your .htaccess file? Do you know what operating system & server you’re running? All of those things might prove really valuable, but, if you could only provide just 1, it should be your site url.

    The site url is https://www.bitcoinzer.com/wp-admin This has been happening for more than a month. The site was working before that. It is not a very recent install. The theme is Twenty Sixteen. I am using Content Egg, EasyAzon, JetPack and Indeed Job Roll Widget. I don’t know about the .htaccess file. I’m using Windows 10 and Verizon.

    Debmund, I’m seeing a login screen when going to
    https://www.bitcoinzer.com/wp-admin

    It would appear to me that you have some sort of login plugin present, as it offers a login w/wordpress.com, which is not usual. Is this in fact a wordpress.com site, or a self-hosted site, i.e., you pay a hosting company for web space?
